Great love story of a life time!

I had no idea that this was one side of their lives until the end of the book. Now I will have to read/listen to the other side "It Feels Like the First Time ". Good story, that shows never give up, there are good things to come.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. It is the story most people have lived, in one way or another. Young love and first loves are never really forgotten and just a lucky chosen few can go back in time and do it right.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Shaun. Although the names, dates, places, and outcome aren't exactly the same, it could have been my story.

Have you listened to any of Elinor Bells other performances before? How does this one compare?

No.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I can't say that I had an extreme reaction but rather that a feeling of familiarity settled around me. It took me back fifty years, to another time and another place. The music raised nostalgic memories I had almost forgotten. It gave me peace and happiness to know that someone could break the barrier of time and go back to where they have always belonged.

Any additional comments?

I don't think that my comments and reaction to both of the books in this series is unique. I can well imagine that countless teenagers have wrestled with the hormone-induced agony and pure joy of a first real love. Like so many, the love is true but the timing is completely wrong. This book may not help young people in their turmoil of feelings and emotions, but it will show them that they are not alone; and for some, there is a way to happily ever after.

Dull

What did you like best about Reality Boy? What did you like least?

I found the subject matter intriguing and liked the exploration of the relationship between him and his sister as children, however I felt as the story progressed it became more and more unrealistic and disengaging.

I would not recommend this book, I was highly disappointed by it and expected more insight and depth with this topic.

Can Not Recommend!!!!

After reading Dot Hutchinson's second published novel, "The Butterfly Garden," I wanted to read her other and first published work. What a disappointment. This is a work that romanticizes death and suicide with poetic and flowery language. I found myself rolling my eyes throughout its telling and was glad when it finally ended. I wished that I had returned it.

Overall disappointing

I loved the idea of this story much more than the execution of it. The ending left too much hanging. The main female character was weak and seemed to have no mind of her own. Maybe that was the point but I found it highly annoying. The male counterpart was abusive and not much more in control of himself. The "fae" aspect of this story seemed to be a wholly different story that didn't really make sense. Overall Not happy

I'm sorry but it's so slow and boring

honestly I couldn't bear to finish. loved The Butterfly Garden, narrator was good. couldn't grasp it.

Slow & Dull!

The only thing I found even remotely enjoyable about this book was the narrator. She's dead, then she's crazy, then she's a ghost.

Top Notch! My daughter and I both enjoyed!

Would you listen to Tandem again? Why?

Already did. The concepts were very intriguing and it took the second time around to really appreciate it. Easily entertaining enough. My daughter Mercy went through it twice in a row too.

What did you like best about this story?

Sasha's character, the way she deals with the amazing set of circumstances she's thrown into and empathizes with others.

No, but now she will be on my radar screen as a narrator! Excellent job Amanda! I liked the way she did male voices and the King's voice which was a difficult conundrum.

One of the ways I can gauge whether I like an audiobook is that, as soon as I get to the end, I want to go right back and listen to the beginning again. This was one such book!

I'm becoming a big fan of Anna's writing in general-- her characters have a realism that springs from their home life, caring about their parents (or not for a time), connection to Shakespeare and literature in general, appreciation for history and science. Her books motivate young people to want to learn!

As for this book, I would seriously like to see it as a movie.

The idea that you would have a person like you in a parallel universe is really cool to begin with, but she executes it brilliantly! If you enjoy books like the Hunger Games, but also like princesses and having to deal with difficult situations that you find yourself in by using your wits, this is a big winner.

The science of this gradually unfolds, as do major plot twists and interpersonal relationships. There are secret codes to discover, and personalities to figure out. When she goes into the alternative universe, she has to figure out gradually who is to be trusted. This becomes extremely difficult!

I really like the main character, Sasha, mainly because she empathizes with people that seem to be her enemies.

A Fairy Tale for Everyone

What made the experience of listening to Maelyn the most enjoyable?

For me the narrator's voice, the way the story is delivered, sells the story. Fortunately, Anita Valle is an excellent writer and delivers a storyline that keeps the listener glued to his seat.

What did you like best about this story?

The compassion of the childless king extendsnot only to his wife but throuhis kingdom. As the story unfolds he turns out to be respected and honored, which is something his brother, a king who oversees many more subjects and kingdoms, cannot comprehend.

Which scene was your favorite?

The eldest princess confronts her uncle and gives him a gift of a keg of rare wine. This is where the story turns, a tale within a tale.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, I rarely have the time to listen or read through to the end of a story, but it had my undivided attention.i recommend this for readers of all ages. I am a 'storyteller,' having honed my skills on the works of others by enhancing their tales in elementary schools, at club meetings and at day camps for children. This is a very tellable tale that begs to be retold, with the author's permission, of course.

Not cool Strauss people, NOT COOL at all.

Interesting topic, but needs more balance

The story in this book intrigued me from the summary I read here at audible, and once I listened to the book, I believe it manages to ask ethical questions that are relevant and thought provoking. Unfortunately, I found the love story a bit overwhelming and difficult to swallow. You have this character who's completely set against genetic manipulation of the human gene, but once faced with love interest who represent all of what he's expected to hate, there's no real resistance or struggle. In that sense, I felt a bit disappointed, since the book falls short from truly developing all the drama and reflection that could have created with a little more character development, and less focus on the romance and passion that in comparison to the larger picture seems to have very little impact.

Great read!!

I enjoyed this book, it was action packed beginning to end. I would recommend this to anyone who loves sci-fi and mystery mix with a little romance. The Lee Strauss's attention to detail allowed me to become fully engulfed in the story. The performance by Luck Christian and Aaron Landon only enhanced the effect.

SciFi Gold!

I downloaded the free demo of this book months ago. I started listening to it today and absolutely fell in love. I really need to download book 2 and 3. Right now. Lol. Lee Strauss has earned a spot on my favorite authors list.

Great Concept - too much on the neurotic side

I really liked the story line and how emotion versus non-emotion played out; however, the constant repetition of the neurotic thoughts of the two main characters distracted from the story so much I found myself skipping as much as two minutes ahead at several points.

I gave it 4 stars as the storyline was intriguing and unique in this day and age.

Mary Sue meets Gary Stu and ruins a good story

What a disappointment. A fascinating premise, one worth exploration and fleshing out... and all the author can think to do with her story is have her sheltered-and-neglected Mary Sue angst over (and over and over and over) her damaged, heart-of-gold-past-of-pain Gary Stu. Long, long sections of the book are pretty much verbatim, all "I can't stay, I'll damage her," "I can't live without her," "I can't live without him," "he makes me feel normal," "poor, poor so-and-so, what a hard life they've led, let me make it better." Over and over and over. Halfway through the book - five and a half hours into a nine hour book, to be exact, finally, FINALLY some action looks to be taking place: they're thinking about (and always with the 'thinking' and the 'talking' - it's like no one ever told the author the old adage about 'show, don't tell') doing a raid on the institute...and they segue off into a date. A DATE. While they're being hunted and should be freaking out, and over more than just each other. Maybe it was a mistake to abandon the book when I did, but, honestly, my suspension of disbelief was shattered. If all you wanted to write was a teenage angst romance, leave the cool premises to someone else.

Interesting concept, poor execution.

Nobody was a tough book to get through. The novel concept had potential but it ran way too long with a flabby, padded out middle that lacked action and impact.

The problem was exacerbated by rapid head-hoping back and forth between the two protagonists POVs. It was a jarring style that made the chapters of circular I love him/her but I cant love him/her but I do love him/her drama drag even more.

The premise was interesting and should have been the focus of the story. The relationship between the leads was intrinsically powerful - two people completely isolated from the world because of a metaphysical condition the makes them all but invisible to normal people meet and connect with another person for the first time.

Feel like I have experienced Japan

Loved this! Wish there a was more stories out there about modern Americans moving to Japan. I really felt like Katie was a real person to me. Scared and alienated in a place she couldn't understand. Yet with stubborn determination, she slowly adapts to become a strong character and holds her own against whatever challenges she faces. Amanda Sun did a nice job sculpting this story, relatable characters and making me feel like I was experiencing Japan from across the globe. Alexandra Bailey did a beautiful job narrating this exciting tale and did a nice job with the Japanese phrases. I look forward to continuing Katie and Tomo's story and see where the Ink leads them.
