This is part of our inspiration series and what an honor to spend a little time with this beautiful man so filled with wisdom and soulful observations.  Dr. Eddie Glaude, Jr. (find him on Twitter and read his book Democracy in Black) was generous enough to spend some time with us in between multiple appearances on the major networks, elegant essays in Time Magazine, and his teaching responsibilities at Princeton.

Eddie S. Glaude Jr. joined the faculty in 2002. He is the author of Exodus! Religion, Race, and Nation in Early 19th Century Black America, University of Chicago Press, In a Shade of Blue: Pragmatism and the Politics of Black America, University of Chicago Press (2007), and editor of Is it Nation Time? Contemporary Essays on Black Power and Black Nationalism, University of Chicago Press.

Professor Glaude co- edited “African-American Religious Thought: An Anthology,” (2004) with Cornel West. Forthcoming books for 2014: Democracy in Black, Crown Publishing and African American Religion: A Very Short Introduction, Oxford University Press.

In 2009 he was awarded Princeton’s President’s Award for Distinguished Teaching. His research interests include American pragmatism, specifically the work of John Dewey, and African American religious history and its place in American public life.
