That changing the course of the world is actually in the American voter’s grasp. We know they’re going to cheat. We know they’re going to try and steal it, but that doesn’t mean they’re going to succeed. In fact it’s up to us to make sure they don’t.

Indivisible’s Leah Greenberg reminds us that the powers that be want us to just give up. That they have done everything they can to disrupt the process of voting. To scare or discourage people out of voting. To make voting itself feel so uncertain that we forget we are still the ones with the power, and our power comes from our numbers. No Kings itself is a manifestation of those numbers, of our force and desire to show this country that we refuse to accept what’s happening. But No Kings is also about protecting the election and mobilizing for a post election response. It’s not just a rally this time. It’s hyper local voter turnout and, most importantly, a time to gather and train people for post election mobilization. As Leah says, what’s happening is “discouraging but it’s surmountable". It all comes down to the collective who will stop this authoritarian free fall.

In the past week, along with the horrendous Cornell 7, the news included: A man who jacked off to the woman next to him on a plane and United Airlines refused to deal with it, and made her go back to her seat. We discovered an LSU football player was found responsible for raping a girl, but the university lowered his accountability from suspension to probation in order to let him keep playing. A teenage boy was only given a restraining order after he stalked and stabbed a girl 10 times because she wouldn’t date him, and Vanderbilt University reported 50 cases of girls at the health center because of spiked drinks in the last week. The LAST WEEK ALONE. What the fuck are we doing America?!

The Attorney General’s job is to enforce the laws on behalf of their people, and state Attorney Generals are even more essential now that we have a federal Attorney general who’s made it clear he doesn’t work for the people, but for the president. There are plenty of groups that see this drastic change in the American political system as something that can work for them. If the goal is power, or retained power, everyone from white and christian nationalists, to the billionaire class, the patriarchy and the predators have found their champion in the Trump administration. If everything is for sale and no institution is sacred, they an do whatever they want, and if Republican congress members are simply going to abdicate their responsibility to hold these groups in check, it’s going to be up to us to hand them a devastating loss in November and start to push the enemies back.
