You’ll Find Him in the Theatre Section
Drew and Sam started this podcast way back in the dark days of ‘the unwelcome guest’, when lockdown was upon us and performers and associated industries were struggling to survive. For them it was not just a coping mechanism, but a hope that it might go a little way to help creatives turn things around - or at least realise they were not on their own. And that campaigning spirit of raising awareness and building back is very relevant this week, as they welcome their latest guest, Terry Hayden.
Drew and Terry are very old friends, starting their theatre journeys way back (hundreds of years ago Sam would say!) as young teenagers in the Luton Youth Drama Workshop, and now, many years later, they discuss a subject and, more specifically, a theatre very close to their hearts. A true thespian at heart, Terry is also a founding member of the Luton Creative Community and, more recently, a leading campaigner to save Luton Library Theatre, where Drew and Terry appeared when young and over many years since. He and his team have made great progress so far, but, as he explains, this is just the start, as there is a long way to go and much to sort before it is back to its full glory. It is certainly on the way though, and, with someone like Terry at the helm, it is bound to be an enormous success.
Our dynamic duo are pleased to be able to help highlight this on-going work, as they like to do with any positive entertainment cause, and hope that the ever-growing Drewling Samantics network may be able to help further this exciting and important project too. So sit back and listen to Terry’s brilliant stories, and find out how you too can maybe make a difference.

The One That Got Away
There has been quite a lot going on in the industry recently for Drew and Sam to cast their eyes over and pick apart. In this episode alone they discuss budget cuts, well timed but potentially inappropriate protests, useful and exciting investments, and a very British response to an abnormal occurrence. Quite the collection!
Then, having dealt with the news and other developments, the Drewling Samantics chaps turn their attention to those unfortunate, but not uncommon, occasions when actors have to deal with the rejection and disappointment of missing out on a job. No matter how much caution and common sense a performer uses when auditioning, sometimes it is difficult not to get ahead of one’s self and start “spending the wages” in advance, or to begin to enjoy the role before actually officially landing it. Both Drew and Sam have experienced this and share their personal recollections, as well as referencing one or two outside of their own careers. And, they tend to be far rarer situations, but there are even times when a job has to be turned down, which you’d think it would be easy but, as one of the boys explains, it can be quite the opposite! Join them now to find out more.

You Must Be Krazy
Guest weeks come round pleasantly quickly at Drewling Samantics, and Drew and Sam have another gem of a visitor this episode. Kevin Aggett, better known as ‘Krazy Kev’, is a childrens’ entertainer, actor, producer, director and more - his list of skills and accomplishments is certainly long and impressive. From an early start as a holiday camp entertainer to branching out and creating projects of his own, both alone and with others, Kev is now a hugely successful solo performer specialising in kids shows and comedy magic, as well as a producer of pantomime productions as one half of the creative team behind Voulez-Vous Productions.
When he takes Drew and Sam through his busy production time table, it starts to become clear that the ‘Krazy’ could be interpreted as being more than just part of his name, indeed it would be easy to think he must be mad to take on so much, however, Kev’s enthusiasm and pride in his work shine bright, and with his infectious good humour and energy he is a pleasure to listen to.
So don’t miss out, join Drewling Samantics and the brilliant Kev now, you’d be crazy... ok ok, that’s quite enough of that

Multiple Personalities
A major contributor to the joy of acting for many performers, is the variety in moving from part to part and becoming new characters on the way. Sometimes that diversity and role changing can even happen in the same production - doubling, trebling or more; and it’s fair to say that proving a greater number of characters than cast members available is possibly one of the most challenging but rewarding aspects of theatre and film etc.
At present, Drewling Samantics’ very own Sam is rehearsing for a production that requires that skill, so Drew and Sam build upon that and discuss the challenges involved in, and how they go about preparing for and performing, these kind of parts. They also reflect on other actors and their successes playing many roles within one production.
Along the way they mull over the loss of popular and many facetted actors, current and past productions, and their forthcoming guest, all this while undertaking their favourite role - bringing more top Drewling Samantics content to lucky listeners and viewers!

Community Spirit
If the need for theatre and entertainment was ever in doubt, this week’s guest simply blows any of that uncertainty out of the water! Yes today the Drewling Samantics chaps welcome another superb visitor - Simon Floyd; producer, director, performer, and community theatre advocate and champion.
Simon is a theatre maker and in fact is currently working with Drewling Samantics’ very own Sam, on a new production ‘How’s Your Father’, soon to be touring Norfolk, Suffolk and beyond. Drew and Sam discuss with Simon his passion for and drive to take theatre to places and people who are deprived of the arts, giving them a voice and the opportunity to both see, and often be involved in, productions relevant to them. Simon has some powerful views and Drew and Sam get to share and air them this episode.
Theatre and communication are more important than ever and Simon impresses, not only with the dedication to and joy he clearly has for his work, but also in just how passionate he is about the people he feels lucky enough to encourage and influence. Drewling Samantics are proud and privileged to spend some time in his company, and fortunately, thanks to this episode, we all get the chance to as well!

Unforeseen Circumstances
Drew and Sam are back again this week with generous helpings of news, views, gossip and chat. They cast their eyes over the latest industry stories and pay tribute to a lost great of the entertainment world, so you might say that, when it comes to Drewling Samantics at least, it seems everything is as expected.
But in today’s show the boys acknowledge that, particularly in the performance world, things often don’t go to plan. So whether it’s a quip from a celebrity comedian that has not landed well with all, or construction specialists with their surveys and architectural dreams not predicting theatres and other venues may have to close (and in some cases have already), our pair of podcasters ponder the wider affect of these, and some other unrehearsed and unscheduled occurrences – including some personal experiences too.
It certainly is a packed episode this week full of the Drewling Samantics chaps at their best, and if you miss it, well, you’d better have a concrete excuse...

Fighting Fit for Film
As per the famous Guinness slogan: “Good things come to those who wait” (other stouts and mottos are available!) and Drew and Sam have had to wait a while for this week’s guest to be able to find a slot in his incredibly full diary to join them. But safe to say the brilliant Michael Hoad is more than worth the wait.
An internationally successful martial artist and personal trainer, Michael built on his expertise and pursued his dream to make films and tell stories. Attending film school, he learned and honed his art, while still continuing his training and maintaining his martial arts skills, and as a result has combined these two demanding careers to become a fantastic filmmaker.
Not only is Michael is in great demand as an actor, but he also often turns his hand to directing, and is regularly found playing producer too, running his own film company Lost Boys Films. He never stops learning and one of the secrets of his success is his willingness to ask questions and improve, and as someone who is constantly trying to improve, he embraces the things he has learned and is keen to pass them on, somehow finding time in his hectic schedule to coach others in the industry.
So, the wait is over, join Drew and Sam and enjoy Michael’s inspiring philosophy and life view, he packs more than just a punch!

Anarchy in the Stalls of London
To paraphrase the late, great Tina Turner, Drewling Samantics audiences are simply the best! Drew and Sam readily admit that without their wonderful listeners and viewers there would be no point them getting together every week for a chat - brilliant guests or not! And that extend far beyond this humble little podcast, audiences are vital to the arts in general, as, among other things, they pay their money, give their opinions, and drive the fads, fashions and demands of the entertainment industry. Nearly all of the time they are a joy and the very reason creatives are driven to create.
However…!
There are those odd (fortunately fairly rare) occasions where audience members don’t always behave as expected, or choose not to respond in the way desired at a particular production. This week the boys discuss some recent news stories concerning show attendees, throw in a few of their own experiences of odd spectator behaviour, and debate what should be expected of patrons and equally what they in turn should expect from the events they attend.
We are all audience members in one way or another so this subject is relevant to all, and it is sure to generate more chat between audiences of all kinds. Tune in now and as always the chaps encourage everyone to get involved, however they feel they can.

Continental Chat
It’s time for the first guest of the season and Drew and Sam are delighted to welcome the wonderful Lisa Riesner, who is not just a new guest, but also a new friend to Drewling Samantics. Lisa is both a very talented actress, and a fan of the podcast, which is what prompted her to get in contact with the chaps, and they’re extremely glad she did, as being so interesting and experienced she is a natural and valued guest.
She lives in Copenhagen, speaks English, French and German, is currently learning Danish, and has parentage from Austria and the German/Polish border, so Lisa is a multi-lingual and well-travelled performer, and clearly reaping the benefits from all her European influences. She also has a deep passion for her work and that of other actors, even coaching fellow performers through the vagaries of an often tough business, with advice and encouragement.
In this latest show Lisa discusses her work, her forthcoming films, and her hopes and ambitions, which enables her love and determination to shine through even more, and that joy in the industry is truly what Drewling Samantics is all about. So sit back and enjoy this uplifting episode with Lisa, Drew and Sam, and if you too feel you could bring something to a future guest episode, or indeed have someone you’d like to suggest to the boys, that is more than welcomed.

Back with a Bang
Forget the recent restart of the Premier League, this is the resumption everyone has really been waiting for! Yes Drewling Samantics is back to kick off another season, and the ninth iteration of episodes from our favourite podcasting pair promises to hit the same level of quality content that followers, listeners and viewers have enjoyed over the previous eight seasons.
In this first show the boys dive into discussions about the Edinburgh festival which is currently in full swing, and the trials, tribulations and efforts some people have to go to get there and perform. They also chat about what is to come over the next 15 weeks, with hints of going out and about, and plans that suggest they’ll go international, they’ll go popular, they’ll go controversial, they’ll go for the latest news, and, of course, they’ll go for a beer!
With fantastic guests lined up and lots of opportunity for their usual banter and repartee, it’s onwards and upwards for Season Nine. And if anybody happens to have missed any preceding episodes, well there’s always time to catch up. Whether it’s welcome back or welcome onboard, everybody is welcome for what is sure to be another great season!

Drew and Sam are actors. They haven’t won any Academy Awards yet, and neither of them is in line to be the new James Bond (sorry Sam), but between them they do have over half a century’s worth of…
