Supply and Demand
As technology progresses certain parts of life become easier - or at least more convenient. Voice control has become highly accurate and intuitive, AI (albeit with its pros and cons as explored by Drew and Sam on a previous episode) has advanced to extremely impressive levels, and mobile phones are now far more capable than vehicles that went to space previously! Everybody is so busy these days that we’ve all had to master the art of multitasking, and when it comes to entertainment, things like On Demand, Catchup TV, Box Office viewing, streaming sites, YouTube, podcasts and more, all mean that we can either do two things simultaneously, or keep things on hold until we have time to focus on them.
Actually, Drewling Samantics is a good example, as having the facility to download, listen later, and re-visit means that followers and fans don’t have to necessarily tune in when the boys first release an episode. But equally the ability in general to watch or listen at a later date, or whenever suits, can mean that less people may be tuning in live to watch “normal” TV, radio could have less listeners than ever before, and attendance figures at cinemas are potentially declining. So in today’s podcast episode the chaps explore these advances and how they can have mainly positive, but also a few negative effects on the performance industry too.
Tune in now, later, or whenever is best for you, and whether that is 5 minutes, 5 days, or 5 months after the official publish date, you’re sure to enjoy!

Spoiling for a Fight
At first glance the title of this week’s episode sounds a bit confrontational, fortunately nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, not only is Drew and Sam’s guest this week pulling his punches, he’s actually telling you exactly where they’re going!
Tom Levermore, amongst many other things, is a fight director and choreographer for stage and film. He has worked on big productions and with many high-profile performers, and, with a background as a classically trained actor, he has branched out to use his skills in many areas of the business. Tom has been part of new musical productions (including alongside the taller half of the Drewling Samantics team), appeared in operas, and spent much time on film sets, often as a supporting artist. He is also a talented writer with a passion for Sci-Fi (book trilogy on the way), and writes for stage too – his work can be seen in the Camden Festival this year as his play Heretic/Gallows (at the Etcetera Theatre) is one of the opening productions of the fringe.
With such a busy schedule it’s lucky Tom found time to drop in for a chat with the boys, and it’s certainly an episode fans and followers will want to catch before he’s whisked away for more adventures.

Chance Would Be A Fine Thing!
May has already been, and is still to be a busy month this year when it comes to holidays and celebrations, and while the majority of the general public get to enjoy the fun and events on offer, many actors and performers will be hard at it, working tirelessly and giving it their all. In today’s episode Drew and Sam weigh up the pros and cons of ‘never being off duty’ in the industry, and the sacrifices sometimes made.
It would be wrong to deny that a significant part of holidaying and leisure time is about entertainment, and performers and creatives are obviously the ones who provide it, but if that is the case then when exactly do they squeeze in a holiday for themselves, or try to utilise free time? Is it too risky to book a trip away? And what if the phone rings while soaking up the sun by the pool?! The need to complete self-tapes, attend auditions and be available to respond to opportunities doesn’t seem to stop, so how can they?
Tune in to today’s show to find out more, as Drew and Sam ruminate on these questions and more, as well as their own experiences of navigating the demands of ‘the performing life’.

Polished, Poised, Professional (and a Pineapple)
The boys are back, not just on the airwaves and for our viewing pleasure, but also back in their “natural habitat” - sat on the sofa of dreams and in the studio respectively! And along with familiarity our podcasting pair are also bringing us another sparkling guest episode of Drewling Samantics. Yes, it is time for their first visitor of the season, and today Drew and Sam welcome a bundle of talent and energy in the form of brilliant actor, presenter and drag artiste, Reece Kerridge.
Despite having much to do during his week off from touring the UK as part of the cast of the fantastic Spongebob Squarepants the Musical, Reece has managed to squeeze in a quick appearance on Drewling Samantics, and we should all feel very lucky and privileged that he has! Today’s entertaining discussion is made up of behind the scenes info about the trials and joys of touring, how it feels and what is involved in being a ‘cover’ on a major show on tour and in the West End, and just how much work goes into keeping on top of so many roles and lines. Not only that but Reece also tells the chaps about his other stage persona, the fabulous Gracie Lou, who is soon to step out for a new show, and even has time to mention that he happens to be half of the presenting team for a popular industry theatre related radio programme.
All this packed into one episode, missing it doesn’t bear thinking about – so, be there, or be square!

Old Dogs New Tricks
In some cultures the number eight is considered lucky, and Drew and Sam are feeling very lucky indeed to be bringing Season Eight of Drewling Samantics to their loyal listeners and viewers. We join the dynamic duo for this brand new episode back in familiar territory at Sam’s flat, and despite their brief podcasting sabbatical, they are jumping right back in and making sure normal service is resumed with plenty more news, chat, debate, banter, and of course beer!
This opening episode gives the boys the opportunity to introduce a couple of new features that will occur during the forthcoming episodes, as well as a reinforced promise to get out and about and on the road this season, as they continue to host lots more interesting, entertaining and talented guests. As is that wasn’t enough, there’s even a little bit of time in today’s show to chat about those performers and actors who spend a great deal of their careers in one role or hide their true selves behind an enduring character, and to discuss the pitfalls of such a career, but also the dedication and skill these roles demand.
So our two ‘old dogs’ are back with some ‘new tricks’ to share, they’re clearly excited to be back and it’s safe to say that for Drewling Samantics listeners and viewers – both new and old – the feeling is mutual!

Season Seven – Best of Guests
Season seven has come to an end, and Drew and Sam have thoroughly enjoyed hosting some of the most talented and brilliant performers out there and combining with them to bring Drewling Samantics listeners, viewers, subscribers, fans and followers some new and exciting content.
If variety is of interest then a highlights show is sure to appeal, and in this case - with a cast featuring Will Gilham, Nick Bannister, Claire Harding, Reis Daniel, Tom Neil and Richard Stride – this episode definitely provides just that. Individually the guest list of Season Seven have huge amounts of ability and talent, and if you had the opportunity to combine them very little would be unaccounted for, as between them they could write, produce, perform, photograph, create and play the music for, manage, provide the comedy and even design some incredible imagery for any project! A truly gifted bunch of professionals.
So here are just a few of Drew and Sam’s favourite moments and the best bits from another packed season of guests, and don’t forget there is more come, as next week we get the pleasure of reliving some of the best moments from episodes where the chaps were left to their own devices! Season Eight on the horizon, but plenty to enjoy before it arrives.

A.I – Automated Interference
Thirteen may be unlucky for some, but not for podcasting pair Drew and Sam as it just happens to be the number this episode represents in the current season. Speaking of Season Seven, this is actually the last time for a while that the chaps are getting together to bring us brand new content, but instead of seeing that as a negative it’s a case of looking on the brighter side, as they will soon return with Season Eight which will undoubtedly contain loads more Drewling Samantics entertainment.
Before that happens though they have lots of news to talk about, a sad goodbye to say to a television legend, and an interesting discussion to have regarding the future of technology, and more specifically it’s interaction with and affect on performers and their work. With all that of course comes the usual banter, work related chat, and even a little bit of reflection on the season as it comes to its end. Safe to say they always manage to cram plenty in!
Extra proof (as if it was needed!) of the vast amounts of top quality content the boys provide comes over the next couple of weeks, with the ‘Best Of’ shows on their way, but no need to wait for those collections of highlights as this latest episode is yet another opportunity for Drewling Samantics fans, followers, subscribers and all, to tune in and hear the entertaining musings of our dynamic duo.

The Force Is Strong
Last Sunday the boys were having a bit of a moan, but Drew and Sam have nothing to complain about this week as they are joined by their latest guest, the brilliant Richard Stride.
The episode title is a bit of a giveaway to one of the many impressive things that Richard has been involved in, which of course will excite many Sci-Fi fans, but there is far more to him than being part of that enormous film franchise. Beyond his escapades in space, he is also a director, a writer, and a producer who built a theatre (pretty much literally!) and filled practically every position necessary to keep it working. On top of that he’s a determined and driven actor with many roles and credits to his name, both on stage and on screen, and has a deep love and passion for the business that is clear for all to see.
Richard may be the last person to join the chaps in this current Drewling Samantics season, but his words are so positive and inspiring, and he has such fantastic stories to tell (including how you reduce a film legend to a giggling mess!) that his visit is certainly the perfect way to wrap up Season Seven’s guest episodes. So, don’t miss out, or you’ll find yourselves with something to complain about!

Room 101
It’s always good to get things off one’s chest, and in this episode of Drewling Samantics Drew and Sam seize the opportunity to do just that! Regular listeners and viewers will be aware that the boys do, on the odd occasion, have a slight moan to clear the air, and in this week’s show they turn the conversation to the very limited number of elements of the industry they’d really rather dispose of.
Fortunately, not much about the business makes either of our co-hosts hot under the collar, but even though the Drewling Samantics chaps love their jobs as much as they clearly do, there are inevitably still a few bits and pieces they would definitely prefer to do without. Nothing too serious of course, just niggles and gripes that not only Drew and Sam but fellow professionals find frustrating about the wonderful world of performance and entertainment.
There are also some topical news items that can’t be ignored, an important goodbye to be said to a brilliant performer, and even a little bit of politics and policy thrown in too. On a lighter note, the recent Oscars ceremony and in turn the heart-warming stories arising from some of the awards are also addressed in this episode, which, with everything else, creates an altogether spicy mix of positivity, passion and peeves – varied content that’s bound to get many people thinking and talking. Find out lots more by joining the boys now!

Drew and Sam are actors. They haven’t won any Academy Awards yet, and neither of them is in line to be the new James Bond (sorry Sam), but between them they do have over half a century’s worth of…
