Drewling Samantics

An "L" of a Show

2022 is full of milestones for the Drewling Samantics chaps, and this week is no different as their episode count reaches number fifty - “L” in Roman numerals… see what they did there?! Not only are they reflecting proudly on getting this far, but they also have a few other things to celebrate with good news arriving for each of them in the past few days.

Along with sharing some congratulations, and despite having spent the past fifty episodes chatting, they still have plenty to talk about and have no problem keeping the conversation flowing. This week’s topics include appearance, accents, agents, awards, accommodation, acting, anniversaries and a lot more, so make sure you tune in to the latest outing of Drew and Sam, as they bring us more lively, fun and entertaining content. Oh and don’t forget to join them in having a tasty beverage, as they toast to their fiftieth episode!

A Lasting Impression

As often as they can the Drewling Samantics boys try and invite as many interesting and entertaining guests as possible to join them on the show , but this week even they are surprised when a collection of very high calibre visitors all turn up at once! Somehow in this episode they manage to squeeze in Billy Connolly, Donald Trump, Boris Johnson, Donald Duck, Del Boy, and a fair few others, indeed so many people feature that they nearly don’t have room for the very talented Tony Rudd.

Tony is a comedy impressionist, known best for reaching the Semi-Finals of Britain’s Got Talent - the pinnacle thus far in a career that has spanned more than three decades and has seen him appearing in venues around the country and abroad, performing his own show and in many Pantomimes. He is also a teacher and mentor for children with special needs, work that has since led him to discovering he himself has Asperger’s Syndrome. And did this slow him down? Not a bit, in fact it gave even more energy to his work and even sparked another side to his creativity, resulting in him writing his first novel based around central characters who too have been diagnosed with Asperger‘s.

Funny, talented, compassionate and inspiring, Tony shares some fabulous conversation with Drew and Sam that is full of laughs, fascinating information, and more celeb voices than you can shake a stick at!

Child’s Play

The boys get philosophical, practical and theoretical in this episode, with a conversation around working in theatre for children and young adults. Often misunderstood, ignored or under-appreciated, the many areas of theatre and live entertainment, and equally education-based performance work, that are designed specifically with younger people in mind, are industry elements that both the Drewling Samantics chaps are often heavily involved in. With an up-coming TIE tour and many children’s interactive performances planned between them, Drew and Sam have plenty to chat about and reflect upon.

So tune in for another lively and amusing discussion, that this time out illustrates the value and growing interest and participation in children’s theatre. Listeners or viewers with kids of their own will undoubtedly have their own thoughts on this topic, but this episode gives our two podcasting performers a chance to share their opinions, as well as revealing a couple of interesting facts that are bound to have everyone smiling!

Riding High

Season Four has barely begun and already Drew and Sam are welcoming their first guest! Yes, today the chaps are joined by the fabulous Jamie Riding - a young actor with a great future and a fresh presence in the industry. As a performer Jamie has his eyes fondly on the past, and specialises in the traditions of two not totally unrelated theatrical disciplines.

When he’s not delighting audiences as a pantomime dame, Jamie is normally found capturing and captivating new young audiences as Punch and Judy puppeteer “Professor JR”. He tells the chaps about honing his skills with advice and support from some big names in the business, and how he strongly believes you should never pass up an opportunity! Following an illustrious line of performers before him, he loves that he is part of a time-honoured institution, but also leading a new vanguard of actors and creatives who are keeping these traditions alive and breathing new life into them.

Delighting in his work and with an infectious joy, Jamie is an actor, storyteller and performer with so much to give and share, so sit back and enjoy his visit to Drewling Samantics!

Moving 4ward

Full of good vibes following a successful and very enjoyable Pantomime season, Christmas and New Year, and despite the Unwelcome Guest’s recent resurgence (albeit in a slightly new guise), Drew and Sam are back with the first episode of Drewling Samantics Season Four.

Yes today the boys enjoy a well earned catch up - over a beer or two naturally - and discuss the forthcoming guests and exciting content for the new season. As our dynamic duo steer Drewling Samantics onward into a new year, the super secret ideas, visitors and surprises they’ve been planning (believe it or not they don’t just throw this stuff together!) will start to be revealed, and they are highly confident there is plenty to look forward to. But the most important thing for Drew and Sam is that their wonderful listeners, viewers and subscribers join them for another season and share a few milestones and anniversaries on the way. And what might they be? Well stick around and you could find out!

Season Three - Best of Guests

Today’s episode is a self confessed favourite of both the Drewling Samantics chaps as they take a look back at the guests they have had the pleasure and honour of welcoming to the show over the course of the last season.

Yes, over the past three months or so the boys certainly have been blessed, with entertaining visits from numerous seasoned professionals who ply their trade in many different spheres of the industry. From creation to comedy, directing to drag, and even lesser celebrated skills like make-up and photography, the guests have delighted with stories, memories and the ‘backstage’ secrets that make their worlds so fascinating. But this is just a short selection of choice moments as there were so many more throughout the season, so tune in today for Drew and Sam’s favourite bits featuring Callan Durrant, Rebecca Grace, Anthony Merryweather and Emma Woodhouse, Joel Hicks, Paddy Stewart and Joz Norris, and then go back and listen to their episodes in full to experience even more excitement, laughter and insight.

Diary of a Dame & Villainous Views

Have you guessed what this episode is about? Oh no you haven’t! Yes Drew and Sam have departed Drewling Samantics HQ and fully entered Pantoland, the seasonal world of fun and family entertainment steeped in history and tradition and loved by all those that work in it.

Have no fear though, the chaps have not deserted their podcast audience, far from it in fact. They have taken the odd few minutes out of rehearsals and performances to record some behind the scenes content and essentially create a pantomime diary of sorts. From read throughs and rehearsals to costume fittings and technical days, in today’s show they lift the lid on the wonderful world of panto and explain how such hard work can be so much fun.

With Drew in Potters Bar and Sam in East Grinstead we are treated to two pantomimes in one podcast. And there are still a handful of tickets available for both so if you fancy visiting the theatre to see one or both of the Drewling Samantics chaps doing what they do best, then there is still time. But for those that can’t make it this is an excellent alternative. So after three everybody tune in, ready? One… Two… Three!

TIEing Things Together

It is often said that children learn better when enjoying themselves, which is probably why theatre is such a wonderful medium through which to reach young inquiring minds. And this week’s Drewling Samantics guest couldn’t agree more!

Today Drew and Sam are visited by talented and dedicated actor, director and producer Callan Durrant. Primarily working in the world of Theatre in Education, or TIE, Callan is artistic director of Reflex Theatre, a successful and dedicated theatre company taking plays, stories and workshops into schools. He talks to the chaps all about his drive to educate through theatre, and how, working closely with his writer and performer wife Megan, they have created accessible productions dealing with serious subjects affecting children and young adults, that broaden understanding and tackle delicate areas of life and experience. Callan certainly isn’t all serious though, he is also an accomplished comedy performer and has produced and starred in musical shows, proving a variety of skills is a big strength in this industry.

So join Drew, Sam and Callan, the final guest of Season Three, to find out all about the world of educational theatre and enjoy a fair few laughs along the way too!
