Season Four - Best of Drew & Sam

A look back over Season Four shows just how many different subjects and topics Drew and Sam have discussed, and the interesting and varied points and opinions they have raised. And while that sounds very serious, and the Drewling Samantics duo have certainly had some serious conversations, they’ve also addressed the bizarre and weird, with a whole multitude of unique conversations and some equally wild tangents. Rolls Royces, Stephen Fry, villainous facial hair, Star Wars, video games, Marlon Brando, podcasting milestones and much much more, this season certainly has been a rollercoaster for Drew and Sam – but a joyous one nonetheless.

What all that reveals about the state of Drew and Sam’s minds is up for interpretation, but what is for sure is that this is the perfect invitation to look back at some of their favourite moments. If you are joining for the first time there is a treat in store for you and plenty of past episodes to get a taste of before enjoying in full, and for the loyal long-time fans it’s a chance to see if some of your favourites are featured too. Season Five is round the corner, but until then here’s Season Four’s Best of Drew & Sam.

  • Season Four: Best of Guests

Season Four - Best of Guests

Season Four of Drewling Samantics has proved to be a fascinating journey in many ways. Both Drew and Sam spent an extended period of time away from home, performing in Coventry and touring Norfolk respectively, but as it is said ‘variety is the spice of life’, and the boys certainly have had a spicy variety of guests “visiting” their different locations. And the variety didn’t stop at the guests themselves, as they represent so many entertainment fields and branches, including pantomime and puppets, horror and humour, impressions and imitation, music and magic, parodies and producing, comedy and… cats.

If only some or none of these at all sound familiar to you, you definitely have some catching up to do and this is the episode for you. The best bits, moments and stories from this season’s guests: Jamie Riding, Tony Rudd, Kirsty and Jason Wright from Silent Studios, Edmond Wells, Charlie Freeman and Dave Bibby are waiting for you, and it couldn’t be easier to discover exactly which highlights our favourite podcasting pair have chosen - you know what to do!

  • S04E13 - And The Winner Is...

    And The Winner Is…?

It’s awards season! With the BAFTAs, the Grammys, and the Oscars all handed out, the Oliviers being awarded this evening, and the Tonys happening later in the year, these, and a few other big ceremonies, all give their judgments on the entertainment highs (and sometimes lows) of the preceding twelve months.

Not to be outdone, in this episode of Drewling Samantics the boys voice their own opinions on these prestigious prizes. Who has won and who has lost? Do we even need these awards ceremonies and celebrations? Are there lessons to be learned from the past for future awards events? These are just a few of the topics Drew and Sam address, as well as steering right into controversy and discussing one very obvious event from a couple of weeks ago.

With this being the final episode before the customary season ending “Best Of” shows (which could themselves be likened to awards ceremonies) you’d be afool to miss out. So join the chaps for a refreshing drink and the usual helping of fun filled, thought provoking chat.

  • S04E12 - Three Men and A Baby

    Three Men and A Baby

As always when it comes to guests, the Drewling Samantics chaps try to bring you the best, and Drew and Sam’s visitor this week is certainly a cracker! Comedian, actor, presenter, writer, cat-lover, father, football enthusiast and fellow podcaster, is there nothing the brilliant Dave Bibby can’t do?! Well you’re sure to find out as he joins the boys for a good old chat, a giggle, and of course a refreshing beer!

Not only very talented, with fans and followers onstage and online, Dave is an all round ‘great bloke’, and manages to stay well grounded being a champion of keeping things real. His writing is innovative and fresh, and he is always looking to use all available media platforms, so it seems only logical that, like many others, he developed work online during the presence of the unwelcome guest. The worlds and characters Dave creates are crazy hysterical flights of comic genius, and very often musical ones, which, considering the many awards he has won (including some recognising his song writing), is pretty amazing being that piano lessons once brought him to tears!

This truly is Drewling Samantics at its best - funny, upbeat, full of laughs and warm enough to banish the Spring chills. So join these three lads, to enjoy some top notch chat and friendly humour - despite Drew and Sam’s latest guest being a Liverpool fan…!

  • S04E11 - Success is but a Whisker Away

Success is but a Whisker Away

No, Drewling Samantics hasn’t taken on a new look, but this week Drew and Sam are chatting about how performers often need to go the extra mile, and sometimes even substantially change things up, when taking on a new character.

Getting into a role can require adding a few extra touches to complete the look, or other adjustments to suit the direct casting stipulations, or equally the audience’s perception, of the part an actor is playing. Then, once appearance is dealt with, other skills may be needed too to achieve the realism and depth that are demanded more and more by roles undertaken. But where do you start? And just how far are you prepared to go? Dedication, a visit to the barbers, a new diet, and even a driving license, are a small selection of the items up for discussion this week as the boys reflect on some of their own job-specific changes. So what’s the result? Well thankfully it’s the usual welcome blend of funny stories, serious discussion, and the unabridged entertaining honesty that comes from everyone’s favourite podcasting pair!

  • S04E10 - House Music

    House Music

With Sam back in his studio and Drew enjoying rehearsals in Coventry, you might think everything is normal at Drewling Samantics, but this is not just any episode - no it’s time for another brilliant guest to grace the show!

This week Drew and Sam are visited by the charming and charismatic Charlie Freeman. Musician, singer, songwriter, sometimes actor and filmmaker, he is a true renaissance man with admirable energy and drive, and a wonderful sense of wit and mischief running through his work. Charlie also spins a great story, and nothing seems ordinary even when it comes to moving house, planning a tour, or coping with the unwelcome guest, which understandably had a huge affect on his work.

Generous with his time and resources Charlie is also a great advocate for new music and singers, not to mention having a fantastic ability to “let things slide” in the best possible way… For that to make any sense you’ll have to join Drew, Sam and Charlie for an episode that’s definitely got a sting in the tail, but not quite how you might think!

  • S04E09 - Suitcases, Sat-Nav's & Scripts

    Suitcases, Sat-Nav’s and Scripts

It is a time of change and movement for Drew and Sam, and this week’s episode of Drewling Samantics certainly reflects the unpredictable, challenging and exciting world of working away from home. With Sam having finished his stint of touring in Norfolk, and Drew entering his third week of rehearsals in Coventry, it seems a great time for them to compare notes on their experiences.

While they may have laughed about their digs during the recording of recent episodes, both agree they have been fortunate enough to have good places to stay - something that is not always the case. Being away from home and loved ones is an occupational hazard, and, although the rewards of working in and touring to exciting new venues with new colleagues are great, they are tempered by the strains of touring life. But far from complaining, the boys are in fact having a great time and of course prioritising the regular recording of Drewling Samantics, so tune in and hear exactly what they (and maybe even a few others…) love and enjoy about being “out on the road”!

  • S04E08 - Cleesed To Meet You

    Cleesed To Meet You

Another week, another welcome, and this time out both Drew and Sam are on unfamiliar territory as they are in the middle of touring, and as a result recording from their respective ‘digs’. They would obviously never pass up the opportunity to release a new episode, but this week it’s especially so as they’d hate to miss out on introducing everyone to their latest guest, the wonderful Ed Wells.

Ed is an entertainer in an increasingly popular industry strand - the world of lookalikes, but far from being just a ‘photo opportunity’, Ed is a highly skilled performer, impersonator and actor, and combines these skills to bring to life renowned celebrities, beloved TV characters, and historical figures. While it is an area that Drew and Sam dabble in to an extent, Ed has taken it much further, and has seen his work in the field blossom from small beginnings to the hugely successful performer he now is. With a fascinating past and some brilliant, curious and hysterical stories to share, Ed is a larger-than-life character and almost bigger than some of the people he inhabits with uncanny accuracy; but beyond that Ed is a quintessential gentleman and brilliant entertainer rolled into one. So sit back and be entertained by the Drewling Samantics chaps and Ed Wells, their fabulous guest!

  • S04E07 - ONE

    ONE

An enigmatic and mysterious title to the Drewling Samantics episode this week, but actually easily explained as it is in fact one year since their first show went live and Drew and Sam thrust themselves upon an unsuspecting podcast world!

Everyone knows a great deal has happened across the globe during that time, as it indeed has for our hosts, but especially for the entertainment industry as a whole. Drew and Sam have been excited and privileged to share it with their subscribers and, looking back, they mull over the year and the reasons and benefits of starting the podcast. Touching on their personal journeys, and getting used to a changed world, they also reflect on the fabulous guests that have joined them, and, while they meander off on some interesting side tracks (it wouldn’t be them if they didn’t!) they still make their way back eventually to look to forward. The future is bright for the boys with much work organised now, and on the horizon; and the future is also exciting for Drewling Samantics with many more episodes and great guests to come. So tune in and enjoy a wonderful anniversary!

    Frighteningly Good

The boys are back again and giving us a treat with not one but two guests who are ready to help them and the Drewling Samantics faithful explore another area of the industry. Yes for the first time this season Drew and Sam are visited by another dynamic duo, in the shape of Kirsty and Jason from Silent Studios, who have a passion for film and horror and are particularly skilled at keeping the “undead” alive for their audiences!

Their work is full of talent and dedication, and spreads across a huge range of mediums - from film production to promotion to horror novels, and even an online magazine for their many fans and fellow horror lovers. In today’s episode they explain how tough it is to get a film made, not only in a practical sense, but also casting, production and of course the ever difficult business of finance! Nothing stops this couple though, and they reveal just how they juggle the many projects they are currently working on.

Both Kirsty and Jason are great fun and clearly revel in their art, in fact it does make you wonder how two such lovely people manage to deliver so many chills and scares! Well just tune in now to find out more… but be warned, it’s certainly no picnic for teddy bears…!

About Drewling Samantics

From the publisher's feed

Drew and Sam are actors. They haven’t won any Academy Awards yet, and neither of them is in line to be the new James Bond (sorry Sam), but between them they do have over half a century’s worth of…
