Conor catches up with an old friend Geoff Power; playwright & documentary film-maker, about things like teaching creative writing in Portlaoise prison and making his new documentary – Hollow Cities – due out on RTE later this year.
Creativity has always been at the heart of what Geoff does . He has worked as a print journalist, a sports reporter and a presenter, and for the past decade or so as a documentary producer.
For well over a decade Geoff has been working part-time as the creative writing teacher at the Midlands Prison. Every Monday he would drive from Dublin to Portlaoise and, inside those walls, no two days are the same.
Working with the students there had helped him steer his documentary work with Midas Productions, as well as to inspire the writing of a play for Gúna Nua. With the support of the Probation Service, the Arts Council and Dublin City Council.
