  • Episode 12: Critiquing Celebrity Art
At some point in this one, Cameron and Stephanie realize that they inadvertently made part two of their “Separating the Artist from the Art” episode. But first! They spend the first five minutes of the episode trying to and figure out *their* way of saying they “toot” or “boot” about a piece (and what they land on is so, uh…creative). During the critique, they talk about artworks made by: George W. Bush, Jim Carrey, Kat Von D, and Miley Cyrus. Oh, also, they go a little longer than they thought they would, so no fake commercial in this episode. Oops. Check out the links to follow along with the discussion: Bush - http://bit.ly/dac-bush || Jim Carrey - http://bit.ly/dac-jimcarrey || Kat Von D - http://bit.ly/dac-katvond || Miley - http://bit.ly/dac-miley

  • Episode 11: What Makes Something Fan Art? (With Scott Nichols)
Scott Nichols joins Cam and Stephanie again as they all discuss their definitions of fan art. For once in their life, Cam has a somewhat strong opinion on something! It differs from Scott's thoughts, so Stephanie helps moderate the debate. Also, Scott asks the burning question…is the movie “Rookie of the Year” fan art? And Cam’s brain explodes.
To follow along with the pieces they are looking at, here are links to the pieces they discuss the most:

  • Episode 9: That's What Trends Are For
Semisonic said it best in their song “Closing Time”: ‘Every new art comes from some other art's trend’. Er…close enough. In episode 9, Steph and Cam discuss all the trends they’ve noticed pop up in art such as: zen tangle, adult coloring books, paint by numbers, pixel art, and art with geometric shading. They also talk about more recent fads like cacti and succulents, mermaids, unicorns, embroidery, hand lettering, and paint pouring. And Stephanie has some thoughts on the evolution of trends in anime and cartoons. Following the break, they reflect on what these trends say about society and touch on all that good, good 90’s kid nostalgia we’re always seeing these days.

  • Episode 8: Traditional Art Vs Digital Art
Cameron and Stephanie kick it off by giving us their definitions of traditional and digital art, and then Cam forgets the name of the artist who paints with her fingers (it was Iris Scott). Then they each attempt to answer some burning questions, such as: will digital art ever *replace* traditional art? Is Quark still a thing (their website would make it seem so, but they’re probably not taking down the juggernaut that is Adobe anytime soon)? Also, should Cam and Steph have studied computer programming (Cam’s experience attempting to teach two 8-year-olds HTML might shed light on the answer)? And how about the fact that there’s technically no “original” piece with digital work—does that make it less valuable? oh, and, this isn’t art related, but somewhere in this episode…Stephanie definitely teaches Cam some alternative words for “taint”.

  • Episode 7: The Art of Drag
Let's talk about Drag, bay-b! Well, let's talk about some of the more well-known drag shows out there, at least. Cam and Steph discuss stuff about RuPaul's Drag Race (including recent controversies), The Boulet Brothers' Dragula, James St. James, and a buncha other folx in the drag scene. They also talk about Drag King Landon Cider, why they think drag is on the rise, and if they themselves would ever try to do an actual drag performance. They still don't really know what their drag names should be.

  • Episode 6: Can Bad Movies be...Art?!
So...Steph and Cam are kind of obsessed with bad movies. They'll discuss quite a few, so be warned that there are indeed spoilers! This episode kicks off with a somewhat impromptu game wrapped around some clips for Alejandro Jodorowsky's, Santa Sangre (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bx2vwzXF1B0) and the trailer for Menahem Golan's, The Apple (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uix3tbov65o). They also dig into the...uh...artfulness(?) of Repo The Genetic Opera, CarGo, Foodfight!, Bee Movie, Fateful Findings, and, of course, The Room.

  • Episode 5: Dealing With Art Block
Ah, who doesn't love that that magic moment when you sit down to make some new work and...nothing interesting happens. Yeah, uh...exactly no one loves that moment. Steph and Cam talk about their experiences with creative blocks and ways they, as well as others, suggest getting through them. Also in this episode: Steph tells us about her experiences using gouache for the first time, both Cam and Steph chuckle about the many ways people mispronounce that word (goosh??), Cam apparently feels that many things "have value", and a new ending segment is introduced! Oh, and, Stephanie laughs at the words "touch" and "hole".

  • Episode 4 (Mini Episode): Yes, We'll Pay You...IN EXPOSURE
Welcome to a (surprise) mini episode of Drunk Art Chat! Cam and Steph talk about their thoughts and experiences with the idea of artists getting paid in "exposure". They also discuss working for family members, their process for pricing work, and Steph tells us about a time it was hard to say no to a commission at a con (even though she really wanted to).

  • Episode 3: Separating the Artist from the Art (ft. Scott Nichols)
**CONTENT WARNING: this episode has mentions of sexual harassment/assault, remarks made by anti-LGBTQIA people, and not so positive race-related topics. **
Cam and Steph attempt to discuss the issue of problematic artists and their work. For the first half of the podcast, they are joined by writer Scott Nichols (@duckols) to touch on various creators that fall into this category. In the second half, they dissect and discuss the visual art of Rachel Dolezal.
