The party levels up in Maw. Dr. Zozo provides refreshments to the tannery repair crew, then does science and botany. Beleg filets fish, works the winch, and resurrects a crab fight betting game. Johawk resists the urge to devour the local fortune-teller, and lends his hand at skinning pelts when traders arrive. Rook refines the huckleberry beer recipe while Kaitoa crafts nets and baskets. Steve ventures into the tundra to hone his ranged attacks, and communes with Stolas. All the while, they seek information from the folks in Maw about the Wizard's Guild.

After the fight with the gargoyles resolves, the party investigates a strange object that has appeared in the transportation summoning circle. Then, they speak with the locals and explore the town of Maw.

As the intense fight with the gargoyles carries on, Kaitoa and Rook dash to join the fray.
