This episode of The Dusty Futon features the music of Anthony Cullins, a.k.a. The Fallbrook Kid. We chat about his beginnings in music, who has inspired him, and where he plans on going next.
We talked to Timmy D of Pullman Standard nearly a year ago, but have borrowed him for a hosting position multiple times since then and we explain why during this episode. Timmy and Big Jon also reveal another piece of information, just before abruptly ending PART ONE of the Season 4 FINALE!
Pullman Standard's new album, Diamond Hearts, is due out SOON and will feature another one of our former guests, Jillian Calkins, performing a duet with Frontman Timmy D. The song, The Foyer, is not previewed...you'll have to catch that tune LIVE at the CD release party on July 1st, or on the album yourself when you buy it!
Another former guest, Wordsauce's Risko, was featured on a remix version of Skies The Limit. We feature the album version here first off in this episode, but you can buy the Remix on iTunes or Google Play

Picasso The Banshee is such a unique band name that there would have to be a unique story behind it. There is…kind of. It's the project of one man, Jacob, who was unable to make it to the recording session. In his place, he sent his new drummer Angel and his lyricist / guitarist Andrew. These guys try hard not to throw their leader under the bus, but it seems Jacob is a slave driver. The awesome punk rock music coming out of our headphones will tend to agree.
With influences like Blink 182, The Descendants, and Alkaline Trio, Picasso The Banshee shows their true punk roots on their debut EP "Louie." The EP is available on Bandcamp at picassothebanshee.bandcamp.com, along with a quickly produced Christmas tune…we haven't heard it yet, purchase at your own risk! The new EP (They reveal the name in the episode!!! …you have to listen) will HOPEFULLY be out soon, featuring the impressive bass lines of Jacob holding this band together.
6-piece SKA band The Meddlers enjoys creating a big band sound out of their horn section, while still maintaining their Ska Core roots. Trevor learns more about music this episode! We're so proud of him, he learns about horns...yeah, he didn't know what a 'horn section' in a ska band was. A little bit more technical, he also learns what a musical "exchange" between instruments is. Regardless of that, The Meddlers have created a unique listening experience that brings you through a few different musical styles.
Alex and Jonathan talk about the melding of different influences from all the members, including bands outside the Ska scene, including Squirrel Nut Zippers and Leftover Crack. Their multitude of experiences adds a sense of experience to this young band. Formed only in 2015, they have already played with some of the well-knowns like The Toasters and the hispanic band Sektacore. Their writing style also shows their expansive forms, where one or two members would create a melody line and the rest of the band helps finish the song. These guys work as a team and play as a team. It's tough with 6 members...took them awhile to even settle on "The Meddlers" as a band name, but it led them to a beautifully simple logo and a bad joke by Trevor.
This band is #HereToStay. Make sure and check them out at www.themeddlersmusic.com or on their Facebook at facebook.com/themeddlersmusic/ - Check them out on the Dusty Futon!
Lillian Lefranc is a saucy "white-washed" Mexican who adds her roots in Mariachi music into a Singer / Songwriter style of performance. You might know her from hanging around Hillcrest or the North Park area, or maybe even at the Fair Trade Decor in Del Mar, but we know her for her infectious laugh and BiPolar tendencies. Those crazy ideas that come into your head can turn into some great stories or songs. She does have a few songs recorded so we sit around and listen to them for a bit.
Her favorite album is a Mariachi album by Linda Ronstadt (Did you know that existed? I didn't), which really explains her personality if you think about it. You have to listen to the episode to find out what that means. You'll also find out how she became Trevor's first...and what THAT means! Check her out as we play and talk about her music prowess.
A bassist joined the Peace Corps, which led to FIVE new bands being formed, which eventually turned into FOUR, and I believe it went to three and might be back up to four, but anyway. TWO of those bands are Splavender (two weeks ago) and Slay Dean! The two recently played together and that's kind of what brought them to us. The man behind Slay Dean is Sean Daly...(See anything there?...an Anagram maybe?...it didn't get by us). We wondered if he thought of using Seal Dany or Sayn Deal...?
Sean is branching out, getting a band to back up his Abstract Rock project, that has a surf rock/Rockabilly feel throughout, to bring his music to the masses. The first album, Red Tape, is featured during shows along with other music they don't have recorded just yet. Sean is the featured artist on the entire album, and we talk to him, and bassist Grant, about what it's like finding someone to play his music.
You get the feeling that this guy is pretty weird, and you'd be right. His videos seem random and his use of public domain videos is quite strange, and there's no real intended connection between the video and audio, yet...strangely...something happens. Check out the video to one of the songs we listened to on this episode. Dead Fright, off of the Red Tape album.
Lindy Crandall brings her many talents onto the Futon in the form of her original tunes. Her most recent album, "She Lights The Sky," is a tribute to her late friend and gives her a chance to explore more sides to her musicianship. It's definitely a change up from her first album, "Flower Child." The stories behind these three tracks nearly brings her to tears as she remembers Rachel. Desert Rose and the title track, She Lights The Sky, were written specifically with Rachel in mind. The album was put together through an IndieGogo campaign and contains one of her older songs, Sycamore Grove, which is a song about a utopia she's designed herself.
This 3-song EP manages to package up Lindy's talents pretty well, but not all of them. She's apparently also adept at the Hula Hoop you can find her videos on YouTube, along with some music stuff too, but we got one below for you to look at. However, DO subscribe to her YouTube channel! This little sweetheart works her tail off to be as good as a musician as possible, singing since she was a little girl and taking lessons from one of the greats, Lindy Crandall is destined to be one of the greats herself.
You can see this songbird LIVE at the Gypsy Fest happening on June 10th! It's a really neat camping event coming up that features so many local musicians! Tickets are cheap, but Lindy will get you 10% off...CLICK HERE and enter the DISCOUNT CODE LCRAN17 before purchasing!
The band Splavender formed from the remnants of another band, creating the indie-pop punk band we have today. The Danny is the brainchild behind (most of) the music of Splavender, including the recording/engineering/producing of their first few releases. This band is a DIY band out to have fun and share their music to anyone who wants to listen. In fact, all of their tunes are available on bandcamp FOR FREE! Of course, you know we would really like it if you kicked them at least $1...it help them make more music!
Anyway...back to the music, Danny sang Tenor 1 in choir (Trevor learns what a Castrato Tenor is), and that lends a very unique sound when sent through a guitar amp (among other things). The first song we play, "Chrome Addict," was actually written by Anthony, their drummer, who explains what it means to be a drummer. One of the few songs in their published catalogue that isn't written by Danny. Oscar's leads are on fire, and Andre, bass and sax, drops some hilarious bombs throughout this episode of the Dusty Futon!
We also talk about a few more of their songs while we ponder whether or not Splavender will ever play the Vatican, like Danny himself has...
The Montell Jordans are a mish-mosh of guys of different musical backgrounds that somehow works. Tim and Ryan are the masterminds behind the tunes, but Adam and Matt comprise the rhythm section, the backbone of the vision Tim is creating. The episode isn't too far in before we get our first gay joke...but, thankfully it's the last one. Instead, we learn more about the band and how they came to be.
Their first album features a track called "I'm Not Your Father, But You Can Call Me Daddy," and features a killer video the crew shot and edited all by their lonesome. It's actually awesome quality for amateur work. Then again, these guys are no amateurs...their seasoned vets of the music industry...and their album Sweater Puppies proves it with awesome track after awesome track! Including their secret track!
Get their album at bandcamp for FREE (Hook them up with a donation) or buy it on CDBABY for $8.99. Your choice. Either way, they get paid! Even more when you buy their merch!
See them live at Slam-Diego at the Soma on April 28th, Lakefest in Eastlake on May 6th, AND (notice...not or) Amps and Ales at Memorial Park in Chula Vista on May 13th.
