Dusty Futon

We had so much fun setting up and doing LIVE Recordings with musicians and fans! Thank you to Clint August and Biggs Harley-Davidson for having us! As with every year since it's inception over 16 years ago, the May Ride has raised money for the troops of San Diego and their families with the blood sweat and tears of volunteers who believe in what they do. We were proud to share the stage with others who volunteered their time and energy to making it a successful event.

We hope to see you there next year! It's always at Biggs' and it's always on Armed Forces Day in May. Next year, it's Saturday May 18th...and you can bet we will be there. Set your calendars now!

The Ever-evolving and developing Vicious Phishes join us after their 3-piece performance at May Ride. We just can't wait to finally connect with these guys and finally hear in depth about their band. We touched on their formation and even found the connection (Trinity...it's always Trinity) to May Ride...Daniel! We love Daniel!

It seemed that we spent more time talking about The Rock, but we didn't want to spoil their future episode either....yeah, that sounds good! Let's go with that... The band has been evolving through multiple different "pieces" in the bands, including four guitarists at one point, and they continue to change. Although, Trinity is stuck in the VHS days...and we find out her favorite movie of all time...at least on VHS.

4-piece Rockers 'The Rock' join us following their performance at The May Ride! Even though they will be on a future full-length episode, we just had to chat with them about what was going on in front of them while they were SLAYING it on stage! Stunt bikes, bouncing fans, shaking the stage...it was crazy fun! We found out that a couple of the members have a connection to the military, including Danny's father being a waist-gunner during WWII!

A big shoutout is given to Howie from Biggs Harley Davidson and a few spectators stopped by, including a solid fan of these guys...but you'll have to wait to hear that in the May Ride RECAP episode on Thursday! The bagpipes kicked in and made it hard to focus, and it kicked off a discussion on Kilts...and undoubtably played a roll in the number of sign-off's we attempted.

The Dusty Futon was invited by Clint and Biggs Harley-Davidson to record LIVE EPISODES at The 16th Annual May Ride. This motorcycle Poker Run and After Party event is held every year on Armed Forces Day at Biggs Harley-Davidson in San Marcos, CA. The event supports the military and their families in San Diego and brings the community together with dozens of venders, crazy stunt shows, and OF COURSE...LOCAL MUSIC! Find out more at mayride.com

SUPER FAN Jason Doering joins us in this first episode of the May Ride Special! This guy is seriously so excited to be alive and really enjoys life. This guy seriously LOVES EVERYTHING...except Broccoli. And even then, he LOVES IT with CHEESE! (Who doesn't, though???). We do discover WHY he's such a huge fan of radio. Tyler is a former Promotions guy, or "tent bitch" as he casually referred to himself, and totally called him on it...THE FREE SWAG!!! You can check out Jason's adventures meeting famous people around San Diego AND the world on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/jason.doering1

We also see MC Sly make her debut in this shorter-than-normal episode of The Dusty Futon (because it's LIVE). She gives Spicy some breathing room adding some extra estrogen to the Futon. That sounded...well, never-mind. Nobody really reads these anyway...oh crap! You do? WELL THEN...PLEASE SHARE! This Husband and Wife team of Scott and Roxy have spent way too much time together but defy all odds by making it work AND making GREAT MUSIC together! It started as a gift of a homemade custom Fender Bass and led to this dynamic duo writing music for the ages. If you like Blues, these guys are for you!

They weren't always called Black Market III...their original name, Black Market Baby, was shared by a popular (never heard of them) Punk band from the 80's! The story about why they changed is pretty unique, make sure to not miss that part. Also...don't get confused, we are not a "key party" here on the Dusty Futon! Although, we do find out that Roxy's favorite name is Big Jon...

Make sure to follow them at www.BlackMarketiii.com and on social media to see where they are playing next!

While waiting for the rest of the band to show up, Kelly tells us a joke. It's funny…I'll give her that. When the rest of the band gets here we finally talk about the origins of this pop-punk 3-piece. It's true that many bands find their bandmates on Craigslist, and Tyler unknowingly stumbles upon the some of the Futon's past...Tinder isn't just for personal ads anymore.

The band chats about where they came from and also many of their travels. This Southern California went to Minnesota for awhile to party, but came back to the West Coast for some real fun. Their newest album "The Dread" is already out and we preview three tracks from it, including the title track. This album, like any good album, isn't without it's good stories...especially where it was recorded.

PUNK IS NOT DEAD! These kids from Atomic 99 are set out on proving that. The "culprit" is a young man names CJ. This guy formed the band five years ago (when he was 13) and roped Nathan and Hector into playing. It's not like they where forced...they just didn't know their "assigned" instruments and were happy to play with their good friend CJ! Friend for years, and friends for life...

Spicy Kim knows CJ's mom and spends some time chatting it up with her (in case you hear it in the background), but that didn't intimidate CJ from getting a little naughty on the microphone. Most of it's inferred...but, we know what he's talking about. These guys have been together for about two years and are already building up a reputation as one of the better young punk bands out there. Make sure to follow them on Instagram @atomic99sd and bandcamp.com ...you might get to see Hector playing guitar in a Storm Trooper helmet!

Matt, Matt, and Marc are all family by blood, and Colton might as well be. These four boys that make up Electric Mud are hard-working Veterans who make some good-old rock music that'll satisfy many rock lovers need for new music. Reminiscent of the 70's rock out of LA, these guys brought some new tracks from the album "Dangerous Promises" out now in stores. It's been nominated as Best Rock Album by the San Diego Music Awards.

The band's first album, they don't really consider it that, is titled "Spark In The Rain" and consists of demo's and singles the band created over their time of jamming. Working hard to pay for their hobby, two of the brothers run a Demolition company named "Full Throttle," a saying they also use for an upcoming track off of yet another new album coming out soon! Cousin Matt has a degree in music, and can play nearly any instrument...on top of working as a Music Therapist, and Colton provides the "Country Boy" aspect to the band...you should listen to find out about that. Brother Matt makes his place known by his crazy antics...even getting himself tattooed on the throat as part of a ticket giveaway? Wow...that's not all!

Chris Leyva and Mike Dorsey ARE the Falling Doves and they fly onto the Dusty Futon with Big Jon and Spicy Kim. They brought with them a unique experience for the fan…a RAW DEMO version of a song off of their newest album. "Falling Doves" kicks ass; however, the version WE got to listen to is definitely more punk influenced. Chris talks about what it means to sign with a record label; the tradeoff between the resources you're given and giving up some artistic freedoms. It can be very rewarding...but it's still an important choice regardless.

Have you ever toured and had your drummer cancel on you? Then your bass player suddenly can't come either? It happened to Chris and Mike on a tour to Vegas...and the "pick-up" band idea was formed. They practiced this type of performance for their music and were very happy with it. They have a different backup band in nearly every country...including Japan!

Falling Doves just recently got back from Japan, where the guys learned about the Japanese culture and their respect for the arts...especially music! There is so much more we chat about with these guys, and you're going to be glued to every word Chris says...and maybe the 5 or so words Mike actually says on mike...

Roni Lee is our guest on the Futon as we kick off SEASON 6! Tyler is back and hosts Roni along with NEW COHOST Spicy Kim. Roni talks about the difficulties of being a woman in the male dominated industry of music and shares some intriguing stories from her past. One of her favorite bassists, the sassy and talented Jules Whelpton, was supposed to join her but didn't make it...

In case you didn't know, Roni co-wrote the hit song "I want to be where the boys are" performed by The Runaways, and is a KICK-ASS guitarist! We play three of her new tracks and get to know why she does what she does...still not quite sure what that is, but we know she can Rock! It does get a little SPICY on the futon...so, beware...you've been warned!
