Text from today:
A week had passed since their introduction.

It was a holiday.

It was stuffy indoors, and dust whirled on the streets, blowing hats off.

They were thirsty all day, and Gurov often went into the pavilion, offering Anna Sergeyevna either syrupy water or ice cream.

There was nowhere to go.

In the evening, when it had calmed down a bit, they went to the pier to watch the steamboat arrive.

There were many people walking on the pier; some were there to meet someone, holding bouquets.

And here, two features of the dressed-up Yalta crowd were distinctly noticeable: elderly ladies dressed like the young, and there were many generals.

Due to rough seas, the steamboat arrived late, after sunset, and turned around for a while before docking at the pier.

Anna Sergeyevna looked at the steamboat and its passengers through her lorgnette, as if searching for acquaintances, and her eyes sparkled when she turned to Gurov.

She spoke a lot, and her questions were abrupt, and she quickly forgot what she had asked; later, she lost her lorgnette in the crowd.

The dressed-up crowd dispersed, faces were no longer visible, the wind died down completely, and Gurov and Anna Sergeyevna stood, as if waiting to see if anyone else would come off the steamboat.

Anna Sergeyevna was now silent, smelling flowers, not looking at Gurov.

"The weather has gotten better this evening," he said. "Where shall we go now? Should we go somewhere?"

She said nothing.
