There is a saying that when America gets a cold African-Americans get pneumonia. The point being, that when an event occurs which negatively impacts the larger society, blacks tend to disproportionately suffer the effects.
Lou and Teresa chat about how COVID-19 has severely impacted the finances of Black America. They discuss the types of jobs that tend to be recession and COVID-19 proof. The co-hosts discuss the importance of positioning ourselves to be in decision-making and authoritative positions. Lou and Teresa explore basic tips to manage finances in a way that prioritizes handling immediate financial responsibilities and shoring away funds for a rainy day; unfortunately, with COVID-19, it's raining. African-Americans will most likely feel the brunt of the downpour.

In today's episode Lou returns to an earlier blog titled "The Ground Keeps Shaking" where she talks about the utter helplessness felt by African-American moms in relation to the murders of our children. Through her words she implores all fellow moms to join the fight against racism. By working together, moms can utilize their collective power to steady the ground beneath us to strengthen the foundation of this great nation. Both Lou and Teresa ask moms to commit to joining MARA (Moms Against Racism Activated). Listen in!

In today's episode, Lou took liberty as a co-host and did something she has always wanted to do: Give a commencement speech. Nobody ever asked her to give one, and odds are she was never going to be asked ( at least by any reputable group) to share her words of wisdom. Feeling a bit disappointed, she remembered she has a podcast and a mic, so what's stopping her?!
In today's episode she goes all in and shares a story about fighting through fear. It's a speech with a villian and advice from a crazy lady. Listen in!

Lisa Fuller, founder and Lead Counselor at a local educational consulting company, College Primed, is our special guest this week. College Primed was birthed out of Lisa’s love of helping high school students develop compelling resumes and experience varied fields of interest. It was also the feedback from some of the students reporting back a lack of attraction to their primary industry of choice that Lisa learned to appreciate how such early discoveries could help the students pursue more appropriate majors and colleges, thereby saving time and money.
If you have a young school age child or know someone who does, this podcast is definitely for you. Listen to learn the ins and outs of college preparation. Lisa tells us how it's never to early to start planning for college and that college preparation should start the moment you decide to have children. Enjoy the podcast and be sure to share with your friends, family and neighbors.

Lou and Teresa discuss the killing of unarmed 25 year old Ahmaud Arbery at the hands of father and son duo Gregory McMichael and Travis McMichael. Gregory McMichael is a retired law enforcement officer. Mr. Arbery was chased and shot by the McMichaels while he was out jogging on February 23, 2020. The McMichaels were charged with Ahmaud's killing (in early May) only after a video of the killing surfaced and there was a considerable outcry from the African American community. Unfortunately, Mr. Arbery joins a continuing list of African Americans violently killed while engaging in ordinary activities that most Americans routinely enjoy. The Earrings Off! co-hosts voice sadness, frustration and anger at the killing and discuss how such murders serve as blatant reminders of the disregard for the lives of African Americans.
If you haven't read last week's blog on Ahmaud's killing and its impact (https://www.earringsoff.com/post/the-ground-keeps-shaking), please visit the website to view the compelling piece.

They usually have their chats face-to-face; however, given to social distancing protocols, they have resorted to having this year's Mother's Day gathering online. It seems that change did nothing to stop them from sharing their thoughts on being moms. In today's conversation Lou, Teresa and Leona talk about the highs and lows of motherhood, share precious memories and offer advice to young moms.
Leona is the owner of Ebony, Ivy and Thyme in the Kitchen. You can find Leona on Youtube where she shares her recipes and many decorating ideas.
