* The Nine Diamonds – House K’tenshin
* Dominant aropagoi of the Serpent River’s South Reach
* Controls the Servos, Byrose, Iontos, and Tylon rivers.
* Control of the Tylon is disputed with House T’kambras.
* Personal identifier is a ruby and gold earring worn in the left ear.
* Allied with the Therans in the past, still has close ties with them.
* Operated as a kind of military autocracy; the shivalahala is a high Circle Warrior.
* Tensions with Travar.
* Founded around the start of the Orichalcum Wars about 1300 years ago.
* Woke from their Scourge-induced hibernation late – not until the Therans returned to Barsaive.
* Found that one entire foundation and its riverboats disappeared during the Scourge.
* Invited members of House Carinci that were didn’t want to return to Thera after first Theran War.
* Sixteen massive towers, largest on the river, arranged in a diamond pattern.
* Inner four towers have dry-dock facilities for riverboats.
* When allied with the Therans, took t’skrang from the jungle as slaves (mainly to sell to Thera).
* Alliance with Thera and the aftermaths of the wars have left K’tenshin in poor situation.
* Not overt villains, but a convenient target to look down on and in a rough spot in Serpent River culture.
* The Shivalahala K’tenshin – Warden-tier Warrior. Headmistress of the War College.
* K’tenshin Council – 24 members from the aropagoi’s 12 nialls. One member is the Advocate, who can veto the shivalahala.
* K’tenshin numerology.
* No direct representation of affiliated villages.
* House K’tenshin’s goals.
* Josh theorizes potential updates for the current timeline.
* The War College – Six year commitment, mostly t’skrang from House K’tenshin.
* Ideas of working the War College into games.

* Horror constructs!
* Can be used when a full-blown Horror isn’t appropriate to add flavor and mood to an adventure or location.
* Black Mantis
* Big, fast, nasty insect monster: Upper Journeyman challenge.
* Has a little bit of a xenomorph vibe.
* Bone Shambler
* Undead construct, big ball of bones and spikes.
* Slightly less tough than the black mantis but is still a fierce opponent.
* Can overrun its opponents causing extra damage and knockdown.
* Cadaver Man
* Zombies… with an Earthdawn twist. High-Novice tier challenge.
* Still retain some semblance of their personality.
* FRENZY
* Falsemen
* Created by Therans as automatons
* Strawmen and waxmen are low-powered, mindless cannon fodder in Parlainth’s War Games.
* Stonemen and Steelmen are tougher, officers and commanders.
* They often have a basic personality.
* Ghouls
* Flesh-eating undead construct, feral pack animals. Mid-Novice tier challenge.
* Damaging venom that goes inert if the ghoul is killed.
* More powerful “leader” is presented in the GM Guide.
* Sidebar about the “Cadaverous” mask to turn any creature into an undead/cadaver version.
* Jehuthra
* Giant spider-like construct created from a Namegiver. Low-Journeyman tier challenge.
* Magical abilities: Frost Web binds a target.
* Iron Web creates maze that divides a group of targets that the jehuthra will hunt down.
* Cunning but not intelligent.
* Plagues
* Tall, gaunt humanoid that spreads disease.
* Not physically imposing as an opponent, but it has illusion abilities that allow it to infiltrate or operate unnoticed while it spreads its disease.
* Disease is slow-acting and contagious, could cause lots of problems even after being defeated.
* Qural’lotectica
* Amorphous blob of a body with hooked tentacles and drinks blood.
* Ambush predator, moves slowly but has a paralytic venom.
* Resembles barnacles from Half Life.
* Spectral Dancer
* Created from highly charming and charismatic individuals, cursed to have no ability to interact with the physical world.
* Best way to deal with them is to soothe their torment by connecting with them, a social challenge.
* Stormwraith
* Horror corrupted air elemental
* Aggressive, vicious, electrical attacks.
* Difficult to damage with physical attacks.
* Notable hazard for airships and air mining operations.
* Cadaverous and corrupted masks to make Horrorspawn from other creatures.

* All things nautical! River travel in Barsaive.
* We covered individual vessels in Episode
* Each aropagoi controls a section of the Serpent and its associated tributaries.
* Trading cartels that have developed over generations for mutual economic benefit.
* Most aropagoi are led by a shivalahala – the political, spiritual, and cultural leader of the entire cartel.
* Historical perspective on the Serpent River trade
* Bakshevas – a ritualistic toll extracted by the t’skrang who controlled a stretch of river.
* The Free Trade Compact – the aropagoi retain exclusive rights to their tributaries, but the Serpent trade is open.
* Standard unit of freight: the duari. A cask that holds 300 pounds of dry rice.
* About 16 hours of travel per day, approximately 5 silver per day.
* Brief comparison of riverboat versus airship travel.
* Types of passage.
* Freighter: mildly cramped, eat with the crew, may work to reduce passage.
* Passenger line: Passengers only, planned routes and known stops.
* Warship passage: Not commonly available, only adepts who can fight.
* Ferry service: Crossing the river, low cost, no berths, short jaunts.
* Dwarf barges: Easy travel downstream, must pay a riverboat to tow them upstream.
* Showboat: Floating entertainment, carnival, or circus that travels the lower Serpent and Coil rivers. More diverse.
* Lots of pop culture and historical inspirations in this episode for river travel flavor and story ideas!
* River travel is a great source for color and excitement, and mot places in Barsaive aren’t too far from part of the Serpent River network.

* Secret Societies: The Eye of Throal
* Hey listeners, is there anything you would like us to cover? Whether new or revisited?
* One of the largest movers and shakers in the Secret Societies book.
* Thera doesn’t know who runs it, but it is revealed in the Throal sourcebook: J’role.
* Five major leaders below the Senior Gatherer, only one known by the Therans.
* Discussion in this episode about the “present day” Eye might differ from eventual published material.
* One of the largest (if not the largest) intelligence network in Barsaive.
* Essay focuses mostly about Throal’s connections and interactions with other powers in Barsaive.
* Partnership between the Eye of Throal and His Majesty’s Diplomatic Corps
* Role of the Eye in late first edition products and potential role in the fourth edition timeline.
* Using the Eye of Throal in adventures and campaigns.
* Not just an employer – use as a complicating factor.
* High Circle Sky Raider
* GenCon! Josh talks about his (delayed) prep!
* Technical problems continue! But not as bad as before!
* Recap of Sky Raider themes and ideas.
* Ninth Circle Discipline ability: Strength of the Sky
* Warden tier bonuses and Discipline talents.
* Warden talent options.
* New to the Companion: Lion Spirit, Relentless Recovery, Resist Pain, Storm Shield, Vital Ward
* Thirteenth Circle Discipline ability: Stormcall
* “Names are hard” and Josh goes through the math of the “big-ass lightning attack”.
* Master tier bonuses and Discipline talents.
* Master talent options.
* Josh misspeaks – Resist Pain would reduce effect of Wound-causing abilities, not Unflinching Fortitude.
* New to Companion: Aura Armor, Champion Challenge, Critical Hit, Eagle Eye, Second Chance, Undermine, Weapon Breaker.
* High circle analysis and build options.
* Talent option system and making choices interesting.
* Other Disciplines can deal as much (or more) damage, but the Sky Raider style is *great*.
