In 2012, FBI agents arrested a man for the murder of Samantha Koenig in Anchorage, Alaska. What they didn’t realize was that they’d apprehended one of America’s most prolific serial killers: Israel Keyes. Citing a split personality, Keyes went on a crime spree across the country for fourteen years, robbing banks, burning down houses and taking lives. He buried kill kits across the country so he’d never miss an opportunity, and he got away with it for years. After his arrest in 2012, Keyes opened up about his past, but with a few major conditions. This week, we’re digging into documents straight from the FBI and uncovering the life and crimes of one of America’s lesser known monsters. Tune in for the final chapter of this two-part series. Happy haunting!

On February 1, 2012, Samantha Koenig was taken from a coffee stand in Anchorage, Alaska. Her disappearance made no sense to investigators. There weren't signs of a struggle, she'd sent an angry text to her boyfriend, and security footage showed two people walking through a parking lot arm in arm. But when a ransom note appeared weeks after her capture, accompanied by a disturbing photo of Samantha, investigators were sure she was in danger. ATM withdrawals would take detectives thousands of miles away to Lufkin, Texas, where they'd arrest a killer who was more monster than man. Police weren't prepared for the psychopath they'd placed in custody, but they would soon uncover chilling horrors and resolutions to questions long unanswered. In part one of this terrifying story, we'll discover harrowing details about this lesser known serial killer and learn just how apathetic he was about his crimes. Tune in next week as we dig into his past and uncover the horrors of Israel Keyes. Happy Haunting!

Throughout the entirety of this podcast, we've heard this question over and over: "If UFOs are real, why haven't more people seen them?" It's a valid question, and yet the more we learn about extraterrestrial activity, the more we realize that people have been seeing them! And sometimes even on a massive scale. This week we'll learn about two such examples, where dozens and even hundreds of folks saw the same thing around the same place and time. First, we'll travel to Western Massachusetts in 1969, where a hot September evening saw inexplicable lights and crafts over multiple towns. Next, we'll cover what is quickly becoming halee's favorite UFO sighting! We'll discuss the 1994 Michigan mass sighting, where hundreds of puzzled residents wondered what on earth they were seeing above their houses. We'll talk about radar data, listen to some seriously cool 911 calls, and hear halee's renewed passion for Ufology (and Paul Mescal). Not only do we want to believe... we do believe! And soon you will too!
Happy Haunting!

Junko Furuta was a 17-year-old high school student with a bright future ahead of her. She was excelling in her senior year, had promising job opportunities and was excited to join her classmates on a trip after graduation. But on November 25, 1988, all that was ripped away when she was kidnapped and imprisoned for the next 44 days. Junko was tortured in unimaginable ways. Believing her captors were part of the Yakuza, she did as she was told so as not to endanger her family. She was raped, beaten, forced to eat roaches, kept from showering and set on fire. The boys who kept her prisoner humiliated and traumatized her at every turn. We'll reveal where her captors are now and question the decisions made in the courtroom. This episode comes with a trigger warning. It's one of the darkest stories we've ever covered, but Junko's story deserves to be told.

On February 9th, 2004, 21 year college student Maura Murray made a series of decisions that have haunted, puzzled, and captivated folks the world over for the past 20 years. Maura sent off an email informing her college professors that she would be out of town due to a death in her family, despite no such death having occurred. She packed up her car, withdrew money from an ATM, and headed north. Where was she headed and what was her plan? We may never know. In rural New Hampshire, Maura lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a snowbank. By the time officers arrived on the scene, her car was locked and Maura was nowhere to be found. Thus begins one of this country's most confounding unsolved mysteries. This week we'll unpack the strange mystery of Maura's disappearance and the even stranger circles of websleuths who have spent decades poring over every single detail. Will we solve this decades-old true crime conundrum? Tune in to find out!

Scary movie night has been an integral part of Lisey and Halee’s relationship since its conception. What better way to celebrate spooky season than to bring you in on our most favorite tradition? Tonight we’ll uncover the haunting stories that inspired some of our favorite horror flicks. We’ll dig into the real life haunting that inspired Steven Spielberg’s classic, Poltergeist. We’ll knock on the door of room 217 at the Stanley Hotel, where Stephen King dreamed up his outline for The Shining. Of course, scary movie night would not be complete without diving into one of the highest grossing horror films of all time, The Exorcist. Each film created its own cultural phenomenon and will forever live on in cinema history. We’ll share spooky facts about production that will have your heads spinning and reminisce about our favorite (and least favorite) scenes. Grab your popcorn and a box of candy because this one’s a scream. Happy Haunting!
