Hugo Coffee is creatin’ a buzz around savin’ dogs, and that makes my tail wag!
Hugo Coffee is my kinda thing! They’re a Utah-based coffee roaster who donates a part of their proceeds to dog rescue and animal charities from across the country. I tried it and liked it so much I had to talk with the head roaster John Lynn. It was like goin’ to college for coffee beans and brewing!

The Regular Guy finds a new church home!
Recently my butcher closed shop, so I needed a new place. A friend shared a post about a joint called The Meating Place. She commented about their sandwiches, so I checked them out. Tried their Reuben, Cubano and the side Gouda Mac Salad, all good stuff. Plus, they have a full-service butcher shop… I found a new church home!

I hate sweet potatoes and this one made a believer outta me!
Diane Supinski made a believer outta me with her recipe for Sweet Potato Enchiladas. A great vegetarian recipe that you can flex with other vegetables, or even shift it to add in chorizo. And the recipe for the enchilada sauce is a star by itself! I paired with Rogue Ales’ Batsquatch Hazy IPA, a perfect fit. If you can’t get it where you live, try any hazy IPA. Bonus Tips: Mise-en-place and tasting ingredients.

A great way to celebrate Mardi Gras or a friggin’ cold day
My brother Waj Dobrowski makes a wicked good Jambalaya. Just the right amount of heat and a dish that’s easy to adapt for gluten-free diets.* Waj paired this with Omission Lager and I sipped a 2019 Pinot Noir from Prophecy Wines. We also talk Pączki Day and a couple of great Chicago bakeries.
*Please check all labeling and ingredients to make sure they are certified gluten-free.

Finally! Real pizza in the Portland area and a whole lot more!
If you’re lookin’ for Italian food in the Portland, Oregon area, look no further than Nonna Emilia’s! They serve up huge portions of comfort food goodness, so you’ll always have leftovers. Since taking over the joint in 2018, owner Rob McCue has refreshed the recipes, returned to hand-crafted pasta and sausages, all fresh local ingredients, upgraded the kitchens and brought consistent excellence back to every dish. You can’t miss with anything you order. The pizza is pitch perfect, lasagna and portabella ravioli is off the hook, and the gnocchi’s orgasmic. The desserts aren’t a runner up here, either.

Two vegetarian diamonds from Yasmin Fahr
Here’s two really good vegetarian recipes. These dishes’ll satisfy even a meat and sausage lover like me! The first recipe is a creamy feta-based, roasted veggie dish served over orzo, hit’s all the marks. I’m also dishing up a little feta history. It’s super easy and you can chunk in just about any kind of veggies. I might even try it over different kinds of pasta. And speaking switching out pasta, the second recipe leaves a lot of room for being creative too – wheat or gluten-free pasta, kale instead of spinach, and from mild to burn out the bung hole hot – however you like it.

I’m givin’ both recipes 5 forks!
