The author continues to be perplexed by the way the world works, asking the question if anything that he has spent his life doing holds any perpetual value. Ultimately, he winds up making his first statement about the need to enjoy the gifts of God in one's life on a daily basis.

Out of all the things he tries, including chasing wisdom, pleasure, indulging in wine, sensuousness, workaholism, materialism and more, in the end he is still unfulfilled. He can only again cry, "Incomprehensible!"
