I interviewed the founders of Austin’s very own interactive art space known as Mesmerize. We talked about their journey to opening their doors, amidst the pandemic, and what they learned along the way. This was a more important time than ever for people to have somewhere to go to let their minds explore. Building Mesmerize also gave Clay & Mateo somewhere to focus their energy and the product is truly remarkable. Clay & Mateo have done an amazing job at figuring out the solutions to making it work, and also adapting to create a safe place for people to go instead of just waiting. • This partnership is made up of two childhood friends that reconnected after years in the music & production industries. When they teamed up with Native Hostel to display art installations for their parties, they decided to find a way to scale in order to share this with more people, and make it sustainable. Now in 2021 they have some big plans. Interview #1: Live podcast from Fotohouse’s new space here in Austin, TX. I interviewed Daniel Nguyen & Chisum Pierce. We talked about their journey to becoming prominent photographers & opening a one of a kind studio here in town. What they are doing with this space, although it is a state of the art studio, extends far beyond photography. They are using this space to create a safe & professional environment. They are trying to bridge the gap between all different types of industries, and this night showcased that. She has now come to Texas in order to spread awareness of sex trafficking, and offer help to victims. The true magic of her work is in empowerment. Her organization, Switch Anti-Trafficking Network, is showing young women with all different levels of trauma that people care about them, and try to provide them a path to education & entrepreneurship. It was an honor to sit across from this beautiful woman, and talk about such an important topic. I had the opportunity to sit down with Justin Wren live at Native Hostel. The importance of community & sharing space was felt on this day. We had an open conversation about our approach to serving others. Justin’s story is single handedly the most inspiring story that I have heard face to face. Justin is a true warrior. It is not hard to recognize, but life has humbled Justin to a place where he is able to fight for the right reasons. Justin’s intention is to fight for others from a place of love & compassion. To stand up for those that have been forgotten or feel lost. • I will listen to this episode back time & time again with pen & paper in hand. I hope you find your tuth in Justin’s words. It’s always easy to tell when there is another lion in the room. Instead of competing with one another we can join forces, & really achieve something powerful by putting our egos aside.
