Echoes of Valor: Podcasting Masters of the Air (Episode 1)

Listen Later

Welcome to "Echoes of Valor: Podcasting 'Masters of the Air,'" a collaborative endeavor proudly presented by The World War II Foundation and the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force. As we launch this episode, we're seizing the opportunity presented by the global premiere of "Masters of the Air" on Apple TV+.  This groundbreaking series, reminiscent of "Band of Brothers" and "The Pacific," has captured global acclaim and attention.

With each episode, you'll hear from guests with deep expertise in military service, history, filmmaking, and broadcasting. Every week your host, retired Army Special Forces Colonel Tom Rendall, interviews an esteemed panel of subject matter experts to explore and provide context to the series as you view it.

Joining us in this episode are LtCol Jay Stout (USMC, Ret.), a retired Marine Corps fighter pilot who has logged in more than 4,500 flight hours and 37 combat missions during Operation Desert Storm.  He is also the accomplished author of thirteen books that shed light on military aviation and World War II heroics.  Also joining us is Chris Kolakowski, the Director of the Wisconsin Veterans Museum and an internationally respected historian covering the Civil War to World War II. His latest work relates the personal war diary of Simon Bolivar Buckner Jr. Together, we embark on a journey through time to experience the captivating stories and experiences of those who served during this pivotal period in history.

This episode is dedicated to Colonel Roger Donlon (USA, Ret), our nation's first Medal of Honor recipient during the Vietnam War, and the first Army Special Forces Medal of Honor recipient, who passed away on the day of this recording.
