Could you spend 3 or 4 weeks on the road with your spouse? David is a very successful seller who along with his wife, Ivy and their faithful dog: Mary Carol, travel throughout the US searching for incredible Retail Arbitrage deals. Guess what they find them! Noteworthy though this is a couple who know how to plan, and more importantly they know how to take ACTION (most will not!). We spend some time talking about finding ways of staying healthy on the road and he is quick to credit Ivy for finding healthy food and places to exercise. I think this has been a critical component of their success, it helps with stamina and helps keep the grind to a minimum. We also spend some time talking about sourcing in Hawaii and the challenges that brings, and how to overcome it!
I love many things about this interview: First and foremost the way Dave respectfully talks about his partners, even after 4 years! The rarity of the consistent success over time shows the maturity of their relationship. What a great way to go to work everyday, they have figured out each others strengths and more importantly, they allow each other to play out their strengths for the best possible outcome. Wow, what a great lesson for us all. Again allow each to play out their strengths both at the management level and the employee level! We spend a lot of time discussing the liquidation model as it relates to Amazon specifically and then how that works with eCommerce and retail. Great detailed information here.
Bob is laid back, comes across as no worries, I can handle your stress (Since he doesn't carry his own) successful seller. He has a full time job for a company he has worked for 30+ years and it gave him a well-earned advantage: He knows how to buy... He is a purchasing manager. Guess what we all bring something unique to this business and in Bob's case he brings a great skill. Bob has built an almost seven figure business out of his house part time. So if you know someone who says they are too busy, they have too much going on, you wouldn't understand the stress I am under type of person...Bob would tell them to talk to the hand, he has earned the right to make excuses...but guess what...not happening! put your head down and do the work!
Agus is a hyper-focused, high-charging, work until successful seller who has found his calling. He has grown his sales 6x this year and he is quick to give credit to the "Young Gun" group of Six and his ability to lean on them when he needs it. How many of us have a real group of friends, who love what you do as much as you do? How many of us have a group of friends willing to challenge your whining and complaining in order to help you pull yourself out of the funk? How many of us have truly given without expectation? Really given? I love the way Agus tells us how he was able to contribute, even as a newbie, but before he contributed, he made sure he was right! Not just vocal! How many times have we all seen this.
Another thing Agus spends time on is investing in his education. He got coaching, he read books, he watched videos, etc.... As Mitchell Lipp would call it: "You have to buy time in this business!"
Todd has clearly taken advantage of what he has learned from the Young Gun Group. Don't let his quiet style fool you, he is studying, plotting and planning to take full advantage of the new learning he has done in his group. He too credits the relationships and the team approach (understand they are still competitive with each other) as taking his business so much further than he could ever think of on his own. I think Todd does a great job explaining why the Mastermind Group works so well. Again, give without expectation! Also he makes a great point that the six of them are experts in different things and that then makes them ALL experts in those other areas since they work together. You get to jump to the front of the line with the help of a strong Mastermind Group!
