Effective Event Safety - with Craig Mathie

Listen Later

This week, Colin talks to Craig Mathie, the managing director of Bournemouth 7s, an event that combines sports and music, about the approach he takes in ensuring large-scale public events like this take place smoothly and safely.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • COVID is a challenge we must all face, but it also risky to centre our entire business operation around it. Assess the risks, look for the challenges, and overlay COVID on top of this.
  • We must take ownership when issues arise. Leadership is far more effective, and challenges can be better overcome when we face the problems and take responsibility.
  • Events such as these take forward planning, and the dedication of a small, but focussed team, who realise the importance of safety at all times.
  • One of the biggest risks in event planning these days is that it may fall into disrepair in the wake of COVID. We must ensure a lifeline is provided in order to see this valuable sector survive.
