This time on the Eight One Sixty radio show on 90.9 The Bridge we become Kansas City Folk Festival Radio! The 5th annual fest is happening in Washington Square Park (near Crown Center) on Saturday, May 30. It’s a FREE, family-friendly event from 11AM-7PM featuring 20+ acts on 3 stages.

We’re hanging out with our friends from Manor Records talking all about Manor Fest 8 . Manor Fest is celebrating their eighth year as a fest. The fest features 60 bands, in 20 venues, over eight days, May 20-23 and May 27-30.

The founder of the fest, Shaun Crowley, and other fest organizers James Miller and Dorian Allen, will also join us. Musician, Aige Rue, who has brand new music to share and is playing Manor Fest on May 22 will also join us. It should be a good time and the love of KC music will be immense.

We sit down with The Royal Chief, he put out one of our favorite EPs last year and has followed it up with more great music. He's got a big show on Saturday, May 9 at recordBar with a group of acts playing together under the name, The Coalition (The Royal Chief, NOLIMIT TC, Shay Lyriq, Scorpio SZN). We'll talk about that show and hear music from those acts.
We'll also talk about The Royal Chief's collab with the KC Streetcar and KC Current. He's part of the upcoming celebration on May 18 with the extension of the Streetcar to the Riverfront.

After that, we'll try and squeeze in a couple of new releases from Bobcat Attack, OkCasheyy x BabyKayy, and Savanna Chestnut & Dallas Pryor. 

It's a very full show and it should be a good time.

We welcome in special guest Lava Dreams who is part of a great lineup on a fundraiser show for Band Of Angels at Vine Street Brewery on Saturday, May 16. Also on the lineup are Jass, Shay Lyriq, and DJ CQUENCE.

We’ll talk about that fundraiser event, play music from those acts, and hear about other projects that Lava Dreams has been working on lately.

After that we’ll hear some new releases and three of them have upcoming gigs:

I’m really excited about this one. Tuesday at 6PM on the Eight One Sixty radio show on 90.9 The Bridge we sit down with FlareThaRebel aka Jeffrey Shafer. He’s got a brand new album coming out on May 1 called Dear City. On the show he’ll share most of the new album with us and the stories behind the songs. Folks, I’ve listened through the album three times, it’s so good!

Everyone in this promo artwork is part of the album or the upcoming album release show on May 1 at recordBar. Eddie Moore and Black Light Animals will open the show and I’m guessing a "who’s who" list of special guests will be on stage that night.
Depending on how much we talk, we’ll hopefully play most of the album, as well as hear music from Eddie Moore and Black Light Animals. And since it’s Flare’s first visit to the show, we’ll do a 7 Questions segment.

We welcome in special guest and guest DJ, Krystle Warren. She’s one of our absolute favorite musicians and she’s back in America for three upcoming performances at Union Station Kansas City of And Wonder with Krystle Warren with Owen/Cox Dance Group on April 10, 11, and 12.

As I was preparing for this show I asked Krystle if she wanted to guest DJ and she said YES! As she was stuck in an airport with delayed flights, I sent her these questions and she made a playlist:
• what are you listening to right now that you love, that might be newer?
• what are your go to songs/albums when you have a moment of free time, and want to listen to again?
• when you need motivation/inspiration, what do you turn to?
• a song from an act that you saw in concert and it was an amazing night
• and maybe flip that, what musicians/bands are still bucket list acts for you to see live?

And of course we’ll play a couple songs from Krystle Warren’s catalog, too!

I’m so excited to see where the radio show goes on Tuesday at 6PM. And I’m also excited to see Krystle back on stage in KC on April 10, 11, and 12 at Union Station.
