Eight One Sixty

It’s a big show folks and we kick it off with a special announcement about the 9th Annual Apocalypse Meow 9- November 4-5, 2016. It’s the biggest lineup EVER for this event that serves as a HUGE fundraiser for Midwest Music Foundation. After the announcement there is brand new music from Kate Rose Music, who is releasing her new album Sunday, October 23. Then we sit down with Nathan Reusch and friends of  The Record Machine and talk about their SOUND MACHINE event this Saturday at recordBar featuring Shonen Knife(Japan), The Philistines, Westerners, Leggy, Psychic Heat, darsombra, DROP A GRAND, Macemouth and Weyward Sister - we hear music from four of those bands. After that, new music from recent submissions to our dropbox from: Mad Libby, Trapper, The Sexy Accident and Captiva.

We dive into the vault and hear some old Blackpool Lights featuring the great Billy Brimblecom Jr. and talk about his amazing benefit event coming up this Saturday night, the 2nd Annual Laughs For Limbs at recordBar. Then we’ll be joined by Kathryn Golden, the founder of PorchFestKC which is an amazing free event THIS SATURDAY from 11 AM-5 PM, featuring 140+ musicians playing acoustic sets on over 40 porches in The Valentine neighborhood (the neighborhood behind Uptown Theater). Hear music from these acts playing PorchFest: Duncan Hill, Shadow Rabbits, Timbers,Lauren Anderson, Orion Walsh and The Kemps. Also an amazing song by Jake Wells that got 87k+ plays on Spotify last week when he ended up on their FRESH FINDS playlist. Then we’ll end the show with a brand new and quite moving song from David Burchfield Music.

To kick off the show we’ll hear two brand new songs from Gracie Schram’s new EP out this Friday, “Dear Fall.” Also brand new music from Eddie Moore And The Outer Circle, Brave The Spirit and The Tambourine Club. We’ll also hear from these KC bands with upcoming gigs: The Grisly Hand, The Invisible World, Nate Allen & The Pac-Away Dots, Modern Friend, Red Velvet Crush, Via Luna, Victor & Penny.

This Friday and Saturday is Outer Reaches 2016 Fest at the brand new recordBar.  It features over a dozen bands on two days across two stages and the event organizers, Dedric and Brenton will stop by as we learn about their new creation, formerly know as KC PsychFest. We'll also hear from four of the bands playing the fest: Psychic Heat, L.A. Witch, The Tambourine Club and Youngest Children.

We’ll also hear from some touring bands with upcoming concerts: Purity Ring and HEALTH on October 26 at Uptown Theater, the Mountain Goats on October 1 at The Madrid Theatre and Ingrid Michaelson on October 16 at Uptown.

This week on the show we’re kicking things off with brand new music from Hembree, catch them on Friday, September 23 at recordBar. Then we’ll hear from Making Movies and Yes You Are, both are part of the great 3rd Annual Making Movies Carnaval event happening at Knuckleheads Saloon on Saturday, September 24. After that it’s all about the 2016 Plaza Art Fair, come hang out next weekend, September 23-25 at Ink Magazine’s stage at Ward Parkway & Pennsylvania, right in front of Gram & Dun. We’ll preview music from nine of the 23 bands. Tracks from: The Phantastics, John Velghe & the Prodigal Sons, Emmaline Twist, Me Like Bees, THE CONQUERORS, Cadillac Flambé, American Slim, The Noise FM, and Run With It.

We kick things off with music from two bands with big shows this week: Various Blonde’s album release show at Mills Record Company on Friday and The Anniversary reunion show at The Bottleneck on Saturday. Then we're shifting gears to some ambient and downtempo music, if you’re listening at home grab a good pair of headphones. A lot of the music is from acts with new music or upcoming gigs: Sinple and Nite play recordBar on 9-22, some brand new music from KC/LFK producers: X.WILSON, Hate Shapes and Asterales. We’ll hear recent releases from a couple of our favorites: LION and ConductorWilliams. and some music from touring bands with upcoming KC gigs: Tycho (9-17 at Uptown Theater), Sigur Rós (10-12 at Arvest Bank Theatre at The Midland) and Migrant Kids who are part of the 3rd Annual Making Movies Carnaval at Knuckleheads Saloon on 9-24. Then Quirk & Ruckus, the folk side project of Katy Guillen and The Girls, both bands have upcoming gigs at The K this #WINSday and then THURS at Ça Va. Additionally, this week The Westport Saloon turns THREE so we hear music from Carrie Nation and the Speakeasy, they’re playing the big birthday party bash there on WED, August 31. Finally, music from a band from Cape Girardeau, the big idea, who is part of a new Here’s To The Roots/MudStomp Records compilation out this Sunday; and there’s a Midwest Music Foundation event at The Dubliner KC to celebrate its release. Jonathan Bender of Recommended Daily and Flatland KC joins us this time to talk about a very cool podcast series and event called, "Mixtapes & Mixology” which pairs a song from 4 KC bands with 4 KC bartenders who create a cocktail based on the song. The podcast then culminates with an event at Californos on Thursday, September 15. We’ll hear music from 3 of the 4 acts involved: IVØRY BLACK, Yes You Are and BLKFLANL. We’ll also talk about BravoKC: Kauffman Center Turns Five, Live! and hear music from The Kansas City Symphony and Calvin Arsenia, both are part of the amazing FREE event at Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts on first Friday, September 2. Then we’ll hear 2 more bands fromKKFI 90.1 FM’s CMFKC - Crossroads Music Fest, coming up on Saturday, September 10, Spirit Is The Spirit and Under The Big Oak Tree. Also, the great Charlie Parker's birthday is next week, he would've turned 96 on August 29th. Then, we’ll wrap up with music from EBONY TUSKS (catch them at recordBar on August 31) and Frightened Rabbit from Scotland (catch them at The Granada Theater on September 9).

We kickoff this show with the guys from Run With It, we’ll hear their new single and they’ll play a couple songs, live in studio. Alos, an announcement for the BIG FIVE year birthday party at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts on First Friday, Sept. 2. It’s going to be an amazing party, BravoKC: Kauffman Center Turns Five, Live! - we’ll hear music from Jessica Paige and The Phantastics, they’re part of the event at Kauffman. The event will also feature FREE performances by The Kansas City Symphony, Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Kansas City Ballet,Calvin Arsenia, Sheppa, The Grisly Hand and Hembree. FREE, 5-9PM, make it part of your First Friday. and oh yeah FIREWORKS. After that we’ll play music from two bands playing CMFKC on SEPT 10, Dance Monkey Dance and Streetlevel Uprising. We’ll hear music from one of my favorite EPs of 2016, Eems - if you’re headed to TEDxKC on Friday, catch him at the afterparty on the lawn of Kauffman. Also hear a couple new songs from Modern Friend and THE CONQUERORS.

This show we talk about some upcoming gigs and we'll throw in a couple curveballs. Brand new and unreleased music from Hembree, The Uncouth and Heidi Gluck. Recent releases from The Grisly Hand, Kangaroo Knife Fight and from a couple Nashville acts with KC gigs coming up Luke Bell (with Dwight Yoakam on Thursday) and Michaela Anne (at CMFKC on Sept 10)... then the curveballs, The Casket Lottery's take on the song "Myth" by Beach House (at Uptown Theater on sat, Aug. 20) and a track from The Sluts.
