Donald Trump has won the 2024 presidential election, securing 277 electoral votes against Kamala Harris’s 224. Critical wins in Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Wisconsin were essential to Trump’s return to the White House. 

Local Election Outcomes in New York and Pennsylvania

In New York’s 19th Congressional District, Democrat Josh Riley is projected to reclaim the seat from Republican incumbent Marc Molinaro.

For the 51st State Senate District, incumbent Republican Peter Oberacker successfully defended his seat against Democratic challenger Michelle Frazier.

In the 100th Assembly District, Democrat Paula Kay emerged victorious, keeping the seat for her party by defeating Republican Lou Ingrassia Jr.

Across the state line in Pennsylvania, in the 8th Congressional District, Republican Robert Bresnahan leads incumbent Democrat Matt Cartwright, suggesting a possible shift in party control. 

Additionally, in Pennsylvania’s 139th House District, incumbent Republican Jeff Olsommer retained his seat, defeating Democrat Robin Skibber.

Radio Catskill spoke to local political leaders Anne Hart, chair of the Sullivan County Democrats, and Greg Goldstein, chair of the county's Republican committee on Election Night results. 

The Sullivan County NAACP held a candidate forum for New York’s 19th Congressional District at The Black Library. The forum featured a discussion between incumbent Republican Congressman Marc Molinaro and Democratic challenger Josh Riley, who are set for a high-stakes rematch following their close 2022 contest. The forum was moderated by Sean Wall-Carty. 

Molinaro talked about his commitment to bipartisan economic initiatives aimed at supporting local communities. Riley, on the other hand, talked about the need for campaign finance reform and underscored his support for healthcare access and reproductive rights.

The Sullivan County NAACP Branch held a candidate forum for the New York State Senate race in the 51st District at The Black Library in Monticello. This forum featured Democratic candidate Michele Frazier, a former Oneonta City Council member, and incumbent Republican Senator Peter Oberacker, who is seeking his second re-election.

The event gave voters insights into each candidate’s priorities and vision for addressing the community’s pressing issues, ahead of the upcoming general election on November 5, 2024.

La Voz magazine and Radio Kingston brought together active voices in our local Hispanic political scene for "Latinos in Politics," a roundtable discussion that took place recently in Kingston. 

Moderated by Mariel Fiori, co-founder and director of La Voz and host of La Voz con Mariel Fiori on Radio Kingston, the event tackled important questions about political engagement and representation.

With the upcoming election just days away, Radio Catskill’s Patricio Robayo spoke with Ulster County Board of Elections Commissioners Ashley Torres  and John P. Quigley. 

They discussed key dates and deadlines voters should be aware of before heading to the polls, as well as the measures being implemented to ensure a fair and secure election in Ulster County this November.

The Black Library hosted the Sullivan County NAACP Branch Candidate Forum, featuring Democratic candidate Paula Kay and Republican candidate Lou Ingrassia. Both are competing for the 100th Assembly District seat, engaging in a discussion on key issues facing the community. 

Radio Catskill's Jason Dole spoke with Congressman Matt Cartwright, the incumbent for Pennsylvania's 8th Congressional District, ahead of the upcoming 2024 election.

Focusing on issues affecting the district, including economic growth, healthcare, and job creation, Cartwright emphasized his efforts to support local industries and his stance on protecting Medicare and Social Security—central themes in his campaign against Republican challenger Rob Bresnahan Jr.

The race is considered one of the most competitive in the state, reflecting the district's swing nature.

 Republican U.S. Rep. Marc Molinaro and Democratic challenger Josh Riley faced off in a live debate for New York’s highly competitive 19th Congressional District. 

The debate, produced by a regional media consortium including WAMC and WNYT NewsChannel 13, allowed voters to hear the candidates' positions on key issues like the economy, healthcare, and infrastructure, providing a direct comparison of their visions for the district's future. 

On November 5, Pennsylvania voters will head to the polls to elect the state's next attorney general, auditor general, and treasurer—three key positions that influence the management of state finances, legal enforcement, and oversight of government accountability.

In the treasurer’s race, Democrat Erin McClelland is challenging Republican incumbent Stacy Garrity. For auditor general, Philadelphia State Representative Malcolm Kenyatta, a Democrat, is running against Republican Tim DeFoor, who currently holds the office. Meanwhile, the attorney general race is an open contest between Democrat Eugene DePasquale and Republican Dave Sunday.

Stephen Caruso from Spotlight PA and Chris Borick, a political science professor and pollster from Muhlenberg College, discuss the candidates' backgrounds, campaign platforms, and the importance of the offices they are seeking.

Robin Schooley Skibber, a lifelong Pike County resident with over two decades of service to the community, is stepping into the political arena as a candidate for the 139th District in the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives. 

Having recently retired as the director of the Pike County Area Agency on Aging, Skibber is running on the Democratic ticket against Republican candidate: Incumbent Representative Jeff Olsommer from Sterling in Wayne County.
