Random Acts of Kindness Will Change EVERYTHING!

When you grow up in a small community, you realize that helping others isn’t something you do, but it’s just the way you are.

Running errands, going to the shop for items missed off the shopping list, helping neighbors with their garden, or cleaning their car gives you a sense of belonging and purpose.

In this modern, high speed world, where it seems hardly anybody knows their neighbors, random acts of kindness are a wonderful way to re-connect you with what’s really important in life.

Random acts of kindness can be defined as, “Something selfless that you do to help another being that they cannot do themselves, without any expectation of reward and without any fanfare or publicity. Just because you can.”

They have the most wonderful ripple effect! It all starts with a smile and a hello, which can be very contagious.

    What’s In It For You?

The true reward in carrying out random acts of kindness comes from the feelings of fulfilment and satisfaction you get from helping someone or something. These feelings are both priceless and lasting.

Once you get into it on a conscious level and start looking for people to help, you begin to realize that this is really what life is all about: What we can make of ourselves through service to others, when there is absolutely nothing to be gained by it, other than what it can make of you as a person.

As soon as your awareness is activated, you start seeing opportunities for random acts of kindness everywhere. It will make you think differently, right from the get-go, and once you start taking advantage of those opportunities to help, it will change you as a person, for the better.

You can add some panache to your random acts of kindness by carrying them out without the recipient knowing.

    Consider this story…

The Teenagers and the Elderly Lady

A group of teenagers had an elderly lady living on their street who had not painted her house for 30 years.

They noticed that every Thursday morning she went somewhere on the bus and didn’t come home until 6 pm in the evening. So, with military precision, they planned to jet-wash her entire house, clean the brickwork and paint the house starting as soon as she got on the bus the next Thursday morning, and be finished by the time she got home in the evening.

Sure enough, the old lady stuck to her routine. She got off the bus and at about 6 pm, she came walking down the road. The team were hiding in the garden opposite to see what happened.

She didn’t notice that her house had been painted until she walked through the front gate. She immediately turned and walked out again because she thought she was in the wrong house. She stared at the house in disbelief and looked up and down the empty street trying to make some sense of it.

Eventually she put her key in the door and went inside. Everyone in the street knew what had happened, but nobody said a thing.

The teenagers got such a kick out of their secret random act of kindness that they returned the following Thursday to dig and plant the garden!

There’s definitely a buzz to helping people!

    How Can You Start?

Once you get started, doing random acts of kindness becomes a welcome and satisfying lifestyle!

What you do in the morning can set the tone for what happens until you go back to bed. Start your day with rituals that make you feel powerful and alive.

Mornings are a busy time for many families just getting everyone out of the door on time.

On the other hand, you and your kids may be spending your days at home. That can be just as stressful as commuting, especially if you’re concerned about your health and finances.

The specific habits you choose will depend on your values and goals. Start small and have fun experimenting. Consider these ideas for morning rituals designed to help you thrive.

Empowering Morning Rituals for Your Body:

Skip the snooze button. Do you feel groggy even after 8 hours of sleep? The trouble could be your snooze button. It interrupts your body’s natural waking process. That can cause sleep inertia that lasts for hours.
Drink water. You may want to postpone your first cup of coffee. Plain water will rehydrate your organs and make you feel more alert. You can add a little flavor with berries, herbs, or cucumber slices.
Eat breakfast. You also need to refuel. Enjoy a balanced meal of traditional breakfast foods or heat up some leftovers. Smart choices include Greek yogurt with fruit or a fish taco.
Work out. Complete your main exercise session or move around a little, especially if you’ll be sitting at a computer for hours. Choose an activity that you love, like yoga or swimming.
Weigh yourself. If you’re trying to lose excess weight, stepping on the scale each day may help. Keep in mind that daily fluctuations are natural, so look for upward or downward trends.
Go outdoors. Morning light wakes up your body and starts a hormone cycle that prepares you for restful sleep at night. Sit on your patio or bike to work.

Empowering Morning Rituals for Your Mind:

Avoid technology. Resist the urge to lose yourself in social media. Turn off your phone or check for urgent messages only.
Be prepared. Starting on tasks the night before can make your mornings more pleasant. Lay out your clothes and pack your briefcase.
Meditate and pray. Nourish your spirituality. If you’re a beginner, start with a few minutes of meditation and build up your time gradually.
Repeat affirmations. Give yourself loving and motivational messages. Speak in the present tense and keep your statements brief. Looking in the mirror can help you focus.
Connect with loved ones. Enjoy family time. Play a word game with your kids while you’re helping them get dressed. Tell your partner that you love them.
Cultivate gratitude. Count your blessings. Think of someone who you need to thank today.
Continue learning. You could use your mornings to complete your degree online or study more informally. Listen to history and economics podcasts. Read high quality fiction or nonfiction.
Have a project. Do you struggle to find time for yourself? The early hours may be an opportunity to engage your personal passions or expand your side gig.
Listen to music. Research shows that listening to music reduces anxiety and enhances mental alertness and memory. Put together a personal playlist or turn on your favorite radio station.
Plan your day. Set goals and block out your time. Otherwise, external events can keep you from focusing on your true priorities. Remember to leave yourself adequate downtime

The Joy of Living an Authentic Life

Sooner or later a question shows up in your mind that you just can’t answer. You dismiss it many times, but it keeps coming back. It’s like a stone in your shoe. First, it’s just an irritation, but left unanswered it becomes a blister, and if that’s left unanswered, pretty soon you have an infection.

The question that we all face at some point is this: Is this what life is all about for me? Surely there’s more than this! Where have I gone wrong? What can I do? I don’t want my life to be like this.

We’ve all had it. Frustration, anxiety, lack of fulfilment, doubt, and indecision. They all seem to show up with monotonous regularity, don’t they? And they will continue to show up until you CHANGE something.

    Living Authentically

When you get right down to it, what most people want is to live a peaceful, happy life and make more money than they need to spend each month. That’s all. Then they could spend time with the people they care about and do the things that make their heart sing.

In other words, they want to live an Authentic Life. Authenticity is the inevitable outcome when what you Think, what you Say, and what you Do is in harmony. In fact, it’s the only possible outcome.

How different would it be if you woke up each morning with a smile on your face, jumped out of bed, and couldn’t wait to get at it? Like when you were a kid and the fair was in town, remember?

Living an authentic life starts when you start feeling happy every day, and that starts by letting go of everybody and everything that no longer serves you.

Things that no longer serve you may include:

People that you’ve known for a long time
    Places you visit
Activities you may have been involved in for years
    Old habits, thoughts, and expectations

What Do You Need to Let Go?

    Consider these ideas:

People. If there are people you know who no longer make you happy, it’s time to let them go. What if they are friends? What if they are family? If you really want to live an authentic life, it’s important to face the reality of where your unhappiness comes from.
Places. What about the places you visit? Are there places you go to for entertainment, education, or social recreation that you don’t really enjoy? If you’re not happy when you go in and you’re not happy when you come out, stop going there!
Thoughts. What do you spend your time thinking about? Is your mind permeated with doom and gloom? Do your thoughts create anxiety, disappointment, or even anger? Why dwell on any of that? How can that possibly serve you?

All the people, places, and experiences that you allow to perpetuate are weighing you down. No amount of success drive or positive thinking is going to change anything for you until you face the real issue.

Every person, place, or activity that doesn’t make you happy is like a rock that you put in your backpack when you go on a hiking trip. You don’t have to go far before the extra weight begins to slow you down, and still you entertain all the thoughts about things and people that no longer serve you.

Life becomes heavy, every day becomes a chore, and the backpack becomes too heavy to lift. Everything seems like a struggle. And you wonder why life is tough? It’s time to unload that backpack!

Humans love to be comfortable. It’s one of our strongest urges. Unfortunately, the desire to be comfortable can be a prison. It’s hard to grow and flourish if your primary objective is comfort. Escaping your comfort zone is important if you want to have an exciting and fulfilling life.

Use these strategies to move beyond your comfort zone and create a meaningful life:

Start by making a list of the things that make you uncomfortable. What exactly makes you uncomfortable? Is it crowds? Playing your guitar for others? Writing a short story and posting it online? Dating? Parties? Speaking to new people?
Learn to soothe yourself. Some people are naturally better at this than others, but anyone can strengthen their ability to calm themselves down. A simple, but effective way of doing this:
Focus on the part of your body where you feel discomfort. This is most commonly in the head, chest, or stomach area. Put your full attention on the discomfort.
Breathe fully and relax that part of your body. You might even imagine a tube coming out of that area that permits the discomfort to be released, like oil from a well.
Practice this skill throughout the day. Sitting in traffic and feeling annoyed? Use the technique. Nervous about a test or meeting? Use the technique.
Go to places that make you uncomfortable. Extract the items from the list you made above that are places. Maybe the mall is one of them. Go to the mall and sit there. Rate your level of discomfort on a scale from 1 to 10. Use your soothing technique and rate your anxiety again. Move around the mall and repeat the process.
Do things that make you uncomfortable. Pick some other things from your list. Perhaps concerts make you uncomfortable, or crowds in general. Maybe playing tennis at the park in front of other people is uncomfortable. Maybe you hate parties. These are all additional places to practice.

Read things that make you uncomfortable. If you’re a die-hard liberal, read a book by your least favorite conservative pundit. Maybe you’re all about civil rights, so read a book by a white supremacist. Are you afraid of death? Read a book by someone in the process of dying from a terminal disease.
Use your soothing technique whenever you feel uncomfortable. Finish the entire book!
Watch TV shows and movies that make you uncomfortable. Some people hate movies about corrupt politicians or police officers. Others dislike movies with nudity. Maybe you’re not a fan of romantic comedies. Perhaps you dislike political talk shows. Make yourself watch what makes you uncomfortable and practice calming yourself down.
Create an alter-ego. You have a work personality, a home personality, and an “out with the guys or gals” personality. You have multiple personas to most effectively deal with the different parts of your life. Create an alter ego specifically for dealing with discomfort.
Allow yourself to be physically uncomfortable. Allow yourself to be hot, cold, or tired and deal with that physical discomfort.
Read inspiring books. One way to blast through your discomfort is to be inspired by others. It can be a short-lived feeling, but a single success can start to convince your brain that there’s no reason to be uncomfortable.
Plan an adventure. Do something big that makes you uncomfortable. It should also be something that intere

Should You Just Ignore Your Negative Emotions?

There are many negative emotions: hate, fear, worry, anger, and sadness, just to name a few. What should you do with these emotions? You might feel like never leaving the house again or taking a golf club to your partner’s SUV. Obviously, some responses are more appropriate than others.

You probably weren’t given a lot of insight on how to how to handle negative emotions effectively. But the information is likely to be more useful to you than the analytic geometry you were taught in high school.

Learn more about negative emotions and what you can do about them:

Recognize that negative emotions are just a warning sign. But, sometimes it’s just a false alarm. When you have a negative emotion, that should be a signal to assess what’s happening. Are you in danger? Is someone mistreating you? Are you angry? Why? Determine the actual emotion and the cause.
Many negative emotions are false alarms. It’s important to put your attention on the situation, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that any action has to be taken.
If you have a chronic negative emotion, such as sadness, it’s time to do something about it. That might include professional help. There’s no reason to just ignore it.
Is the emotion driven by fear? There are different causes for fear. There’s the “I might fall to my death” type of fear. There’s also the, “What if the pretty lady rejects my offer for a date” type of fear. One is definitely worth paying attention to. The other is best ignored.
Most of us allow the wrong type of fear to drive our decisions. A little courage can go a long way. A little discomfort is necessary to grow and progress. Running away from that type of discomfort is very limiting.
What are the consequences? Consider the cause of your negative emotion and the consequences of your potential responses.
Science is quite clear on the fact that our ability to think and make decisions is degraded by strong emotions. It’s easy to make a poor choice that can cause you a lot of grief. Choose carefully.
Use your logic to make a final determination. Do your best to be logical in your response to negative emotions. It can be a good way to override the tendency to respond emotionally and instinctively. You have a lot of wisdom deep inside of you. Use it to your advantage.
De-stress if appropriate. If you’re feeling stressed, take steps to de-stress. Most people are too passive when faced with stress. There’s a lot you can do to relax. Listen to peaceful music, watch a good movie, call a friend, get a massage, take a nap, or go for a walk. Take control and de-stress yourself.
Take time to respond, if appropriate. If you can wait to make a decision about how to respond, do it. Once you’ve had a chance to think and have calmed down, then you’re in a better position to make a wise choice.
A lot of the challenges in your past could have been avoided by waiting a few minutes, hours, or days to make a decision.
Negative emotions are a benefit if used properly. They can save your life. They can force you to make positive changes to your life.

They can also be a source of great discomfort. They can drive you to do and say things you shouldn’t.

When faced with negative emotions, stay calm and assess the situation. U

6 Productive Tips to Help You Work Smarter, Not Harder

All our lives we’ve been told to work harder if we want to achieve, if we want to succeed, if we want to do more, and if we want to maximize our potential.

But, consider this: What if you could get just as much done - or more - if you simply worked smarter instead of harder?

Of course, working hard and being industrious in order to get ahead personally and professionally is commendable. But, once again, it’s even more commendable if you find tools and strategies that aid the process.

Technology has made many things easier and less time-consuming. There are many devices, gadgets, and mediums that provide speed, accuracy, and real time directives for us to make informed decisions.

Take Google maps, for example: It’s virtually impossible to get lost where GPS navigation system is provided, and there’s no need for us to waste time asking others (who are just as clueless) about where to find that office or how to get to that appointment on time.

Enjoy the benefits of working smarter! Use these tips as a springboard to ideas of your own to help you save time and become more productive.

    Work smarter with these strategies:

Avoid reinventing the wheel. Working smarter also means not trying to reinvent the wheel. If you have a task to complete, ask if it has already been done and if there’s an easier way to do it.
Enhance the task. Always look for ways to refine your job or make your tasks easier or quicker. Efficiency and effectiveness are desired above all.
Pace yourself. Allow yourself time to process what needs to be done and determine your best options or alternatives.
Analyze the project. See if you can reach the same result with fewer steps. Can you use new software or other technology to reduce the workload?
Delegate. Identify people who perform certain tasks better than you. Give them clear instructions on what you want to achieve, and then allow them to use their initiative and creativity.
Passing off routine and mundane chores will still get the job done well while freeing you up to deal with more important tasks.
Keep a diary or notebook. It’s useful to routinely keep track of what you’ve done or are currently working on. This affords accountability, transparency, and a record of your accomplishments.
Such a record also comes in handy when it’s time for your annual review or you’re trying to move up in your career.
Show gratitude. You’ll develop loyal coworkers when you show them that you’re thankful for their efforts. It makes them feel good about themselves and you, too. And who doesn’t want to feel good about themselves? Your gratitude encourages them to help you again when you need it.

Avoid being overworked and overwhelmed. If you’re committed to getting things done in an effective and efficient manner while reducing your stress, then working smarter is for you!

Enjoy peak performance by prioritizing your tasks and employing proven tools, strategies, and technologies to help you achieve success and personal satisfaction on a job well done.

7 Ways to Create Momentum in Your Life

Momentum makes it easier to create change. It’s much harder to find the first client than to find the 10th. If you have to lose 50 pounds, the second 10 are easier to lose than the first 10. It’s just hard to get started when you’re trying to change something in your life. It’s easier to keep a boulder rolling than it is to get it started.

Try these ideas to start your momentum:

Do something worthwhile as early in the day as possible. Whatever your big goal in life happens to be, do something about it first thing each day. It’s a great way to show yourself that you’re serious about being successful. It’s also a way to build a lot of momentum that can carry you through the day.
For example, if you need to drop a few pounds, get out of the door ASAP in the morning and go for a quick walk.
If you want to write a novel, write one page before you even take a shower.
Are you interested in speaking Italian? Learn three new vocabulary words before you have your morning coffee.
A small accomplishment early in the day can motivate you to do even more later in the day. A bad morning usually drains your motivation, so ensure you have a great morning.
Make your bed each day. It might seem like a trivial act, but it can make a big difference. You’ve barely woken up and you’ve already accomplished something. You’ll also appreciate it when you go to bed. Try it for a week and notice how much better you feel about yourself.
Find a mentor that’s doing better than you are. Even the most successful people can use a good mentor.  If you need to lose weight, find someone that’s lost 100+ lbs. If you want to make 6-figures, find a mentor that’s making seven. A good mentor will push you to be more than you’re currently demonstrating.
Be consistent. It’s impossible to gain momentum without consistency. Each time you stop, it’s necessary to get started again. That’s the opposite of momentum. Get started and keep going. Consistent action is the key.
Perform a 30-day challenge. Pick a habit you’d like to create and force yourself to do it each day for the next month. This is a great way to build momentum. When the 30 days are up, you should be able to continue. You’ve already been doing it for a month after all. What’s another month or decade? Easy.
Have a vision. A compelling vision for the future can be the motivation needed to get started and to continue until you experience success. Think about what you want to accomplish. Who do you want to become? What type of life do you want to live? Create an attractive vision of a future that fills you with excitement.
Few people have a long-term plan for their life. Even fewer have a plan that excites them. Be one of the few.
Be action-oriented. Most of us do too much planning and spend too much time gathering more information. The people that accomplish the most are those that take action quickly, consistently, and aggressively. Focus on the actions you can take and actually take them. Momentum is the result.

With momentum, it’s easy to believe that you can accomplish anything. Withou

You have at least one incredible talent that lies completely beyond your awareness. You might even have more than one. There are so many things you’ve never tried, or even considered, that it’s practically guaranteed that you don’t even know what your greatest talent might be.

Imagine how much fuller your life could be if you were able to find a few of these hidden talents. You don’t know what you’re missing!

Discover your talents and learn more about yourself with these strategies:

Follow your interests. There’s one approach to life that is built on the belief that your interests will lead you to find your talents and purpose. All you have to do is get off the couch and pursue these interests and see where they take you.Whether you have a nagging urge to learn computer programming or a fascination with jazz piano, follow those breadcrumbs and see where they lead.
Make a list of all the interests you’ve never actually tried. Start with those that have been long-time interests and make plans to finally do them. Just pick one and do it. See what happens.
List your strengths. What are you good at? What can you naturally do that others seem to struggle at? What are strengths you’ve developed over the years? Given all of those strengths, what else do you think you’d be good at? This can be an effective way to identify talents you’ve never considered.
Ask for advice. Your friends and family know plenty of things about you that you don’t know about yourself. Ask them what they believe your strengths are. Ask them what they believe your talents are and how you could best use them. Most of your friends and family would be happy to do this for you.
What do you like to talk about? What do you like to talk about with your friends? Is there a topic that you always seem to mention every time you hang out? Do you like to share the latest scientific news with your friends? Are you always telling them how you’d like to visit Egypt someday?
What talents do you most admire in others? For example, if you are a huge fan of art, determine if you have a hidden artistic talent. Do you love good writing? Try your hand at some short stories.

Take an aptitude test. An intelligence test measures intelligence. An achievement test measures how much you know. An aptitude test determines what you would be good at. In a sense, it’s a test that will reveal your talents. There are plenty of aptitude tests you can take online. Take one and see what you discover.
Review your movie, book, and music collection. What kinds of movies do you like? Where do your reading interests lie? What type of music inspires you? Is there one idea that ties your media collection together? How can you leverage this interest?
Keep an open mind. Most of us made up our minds about ourselves a long time ago. Be open to discovering talents you never knew you had. It’s hard to discover anything with a closed mind.

How many talents do you currently know that you possess? What if you don’t even know about half of them? What if there are several amazing talents you don’t know about?

Taking Action is the Thing That Matters
Do you spend all of your free time reading and gathering information? Are you a self-help junkie that never seems to make any meaningful progress in your life? Are you trying to take your life to the next level by using the power of your mind alone?
How is that working for you?
Nothing changes until your behavior changes. Sure, you might feel better about your life after all of your mental gymnastics, but is anything actually happening in your life from all of these intellectual efforts?
Take action and watch your life change before your eyes!
Consider these ideas:  Taking Action is the Thing That Matters
    1.  You have to do something for something to happen. Nothing happens until you act. You can’t wish or visualize your way to a plate of food, a fancy car, the partner or your dreams, or a successful business. Those things might make it easier for you to act, but you must still take action of some kind.
    >  Unless you’re telekinetic, you can’t even make a paperclip move across your desk without taking action.
    >  The more you want to accomplish, the bigger the action you’ll need to take.
    2.  It’s not what you can do that matters. It’s what you actually do that counts. The amount of capability you possess only increases the number of options you have available.
    >  Having options isn’t the same as choosing one and taking action.
    3.  Your beliefs, values, and thoughts influence your behavior. For example, if you believe that you’re smart, capable, and good looking, your behavior will be different than if you believe that you’re simple minded, incapable, and homely in appearance. Here are some more examples:
    >  Do you believe that failure is fine or to be avoided at all costs?
    >  Do you believe that most people are inherently good or inherently bad?
    >  Do you value safety or adventure?
    >  Do you have positive thoughts about your goals or negative?
    >  None of these things has any actual power in the world, other than that they can alter the choices you make and the actions you take.  Taking Action is the Thing That Matters
    4.  The law of averages is ultimately on your side. If your dream is to play the piano, you can certainly do it. You simply have to keep trying. A pro pianist might play a certain piece better than you do, but you’ll most likely be successful eventually.
    >  When you take action, you get a result. You’re bound to get the result you want eventually if you take action long enough. Eventually, the law of averages will pay off.
    >  When you do nothing, you always fail.
    5.  Action creates potential. When you take action, you can learn from your results. When you take action, things change. New opportunities become available. You might meet a new person that can help you get what you want. When you take the first step, the next step appears.  Taking Action is the Thing That Matters
    >  Things start happening when you start moving. Nothing happens while you’re learning, scheming, and planning.
Things begin to change when your behavior cha

When you think of having good emotional health, terms like happiness, self- esteem, self-confidence, optimism, and  mental toughness likely come to mind. You might not consider the ideas of self- acceptance and contentment.
But isn’t contentment what we’re all seeking?
Contentment is the place where we don’t need anything. We’re completely satisfied as we are, as our life is.
Think of how many things you do each day in an effort to feel more content:
    The real secret is self-acceptance.
We’re all seeking contentment, perhaps even more than happiness. But we need to view happiness as a side-effect of contentment. The fact is, contentment is a prerequisite to feeling happy. Everyone is driven by the need for contentment.
Some of us seek contentment through achievement or wealth. Others seek it through altruism or creation. Both can be dead ends. Where does it stop? Does a
billionaire ever feel content, or does he continuously feel the need to create greater wealth?
Nothing external can ever provide life- altering, radical contentment. Contentment must be found from the inside through kindness, compassion, and self-acceptance.
