180-M-TALL TRIANGULAR TOWER FOR PARIS PROPER
The first 100-m-plus-tall tower approved in 46 years by the Administrative Court of Paris is a 41-story, 180-m-tall triangular tower designed by Herzog & de Meuron. To be located in the Porte de Versailles neighborhood, in the south of the city, Tour Triangle was approved with modifications by the Council of Paris in mid-2015. The Urban Developer reported it was first unveiled in 2008 and "was quickly met with fierce criticism" due to its size, height and design, leading to its rejection in 2014 and delays by opponent groups. It would become the city's third tallest structure, after the Eiffel Tower and the Montparnasse Tower. Five thousand construction workers would be employed, with another 5,000 employee occupants upon completion. Construction is expected to begin late this year to target wrapping up in 2024 for the Paris Olympics.

25-STORY CONVERSION HEAVY ON VIEWS OF NYC LANDMARKS
New York YIMBY recently toured the conversion of a 131-year-old coal power plant into a 25-story structure designed by COOKFOX that will house 70 residential units and 2,500 sq. ft. of lower-level retail, revealing a plethora of views of NYC landmarks old and new. Being developed by Jeff Greene at 100 Vandam Street in the emerging Hudson Square neighborhood at Vandam and Greenwich streets, the tower features a pair of setbacks, one near the top and another that will become a large rooftop terrace; loggia gardens designed by Terrain-NYC that will be watered by collected wastewater; and, perhaps most importantly, views. These include the Empire State Building, the emerging Willliamsburg waterfront, Kohn Pedersen Fox’s One Vanderbilt supertall office tower and Herzog and de Meuron’s “Jenga-like” 56 Leonard Street in Tribeca, to name a few. Completion is anticipated next year.

BIG DOUBLES DOWN ON QUITO WITH INSPIRED MIXED-USE TOWER
Following the under-construction, mixed-use IQON tower in the Ecuadorian capital of Quito, Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) has unveiled a second project there: a 24-story mixed-use tower called EPIQ that takes inspiration from the city’s historic red herringbone sidewalks and the landscaped park it faces, dezeen reports. Designed in collaboration with Quito’s Uribe & Schwarzkopf, EPIQ consists of two curved blocks clad in a red herringbone façade with pockets of greenery. It will incorporate numerous sustainable features and have amenities such as an outdoor swimming pool, a cinema, bowling alley and arty areas. Slated for completion in 2022, EPIQ will rise from site near Quito’s Old City in the Parque La Carolina neighborhood and join projects by architects such as Moshe Safdie.
