One of the essential keys to achieving your goals is learning how to get support for what you don’t need to do yourself. That means learning how to delegate and what to delegate. So, I invited the owner of Hilltop Operations + Consulting Anne Hill onto the show to teach delegation best practices and how they work best in your business.
Highlights:
2:50 - We come in and really help to manage the processes, manage the systems, get the business owners set up in a way that they can bring on team members and start to just simplify everything for them.
13:32 - There’s different phases in business as you grow. There’s going to be times when all of a sudden a certain process that you may have done a certain way for the last three years just doesn’t work anymore.
19:21 - If you’re bringing on team members, you do need to be aware of profit margin.
25:48 - Sometimes it is the team members’ fault too. Don’t always think that it is always your fault as the business owner.

One of the biggest challenges to achieving your goals might be that you can’t achieve them alone…but you’re trying to. Building a team that is on board with your goals and bigger vision can be a huge help in turning them into a reality. But there is a lot to learn when it comes to getting the right people on your team. I talked with organizational development expert Dr. Melissa Furman about the essential things to know when it comes to recruiting and retaining the best employees.
Highlights:
3:24 - More recently I’ve been hearing a lot about diversity, equity and inclusion. How do we recruit and retain diverse people?
14:11 - Most job postings are aligned with the job description. Most job descriptions are written and aligned with a performance evaluation. Performance evaluations are a waste of time.
26:00 - You have to have a really strong onboarding process and ongoing training.
34:14 - They need to learn about what we call inclusive leadership. They need to learn about people who are different from them.

Like many others, I set a goal to read more in 2022. Of course, I put measurable, attainable specifications around it so I achieved, and even surpassed, my book goal! Therefore, I wanted to share some of my favorite books from last year and why I loved them.
Highlights:
3:46 - Heather taught me about the difference between our true inner voice and our inner critic. I don’t know about you, but my inner critic tends to speak so dang loudly. According to Heather, the inner critic only sees evidence of every part of you that is lacking and the true inner voice knows you are worthy for who you are and sees many options and paths.
8:56 I think that the reason that you choose to read a book can amplify its impact on your life.
11:20 I like having a stack of books to choose from so when I finish one book, I can simply grab another and don’t have to think about what to read next.

How many times have you set a goal to read more books? I have, and last year, I actually surpassed my goal! This was a big accomplishment, so I wanted to bring on an expert to help us understand how to make reading enjoyable, achievable, and efficient. I’m excited for you to hear from Abby Marks Beale about how to do all of that, and transform your relationship to learning through reading.
Highlights:
7:46 - It’s all about being really discerning about where you’re at at this time, what you’re interested in, what’s gonna be most relevant to you personally and professionally.
11:45 - “When I was in elementary school I had to stand up in front of the class and read and ever since then I have hated reading.” They were told they were bad or they were too slow. Let it go. Your past does not predict your future.
18:14 - Speed Reading is an active, mindful and conscious set of strategies that allow you to get what you need quickly from any reading material in an efficient and effective manner.
25:01 - Before you start jumping in and trying to commit to memory something you don’t even know, look at the whole chapter, find that outline, read through that quickly first, and then when you go back and read it in more detail, find the areas that are unfamiliar to you. Then create a good note-taking method.
