The Hustle & Grind Mentality Is Not Healthy (for us, anyways). 

Both James & I have our own side hustles/projects - and sometimes get too sucked into the grind mentality to compete with others, or even ourselves. Sometimes we feel guilty about 'not working hard enough'.

This whole grind culture - this whole 'do more', 'be better', 'work harder' mentality has negatively affected us both. From feeling like having a break isn't okay, doing something non-productive because it's fun isn't okay, or constantly checking our phones for no known reason.

We chat about how we deal with it, cleansing my phone addiction, chasing the 'childhood' feeling, his counselling, acknowledging our priorities, the benefits of going outside, and balancing social media and the need to 'keep up' versus just doing the basics well and being less stressed. 

Not everyone will agree with our mindsets - but we hope this open, raw, and honest conversation from our own perspectives can shed some light on the whole hustle culture - and let you know that maybe it's okay to have a break here and there if you feel you need. Because if you do, the world probably won't end.

I answered the phone... "Should we just stay over there for an extra couple months?"

"Sure" I said. "Why Not".

Borders are opening, and thousands of young Kiwi's and young people (and old!) worldwide are itching to travel once more - since 2019, there has been no chance to go on that magical OE (overseas experience) that fresh uni grads often gravitate towards. But now, things are changing.

Listen in to myself and my partner Sam talk about a spontaneous, joking round conversation that lead to what will be a 6-8 week excursion through Europe, UK, and Australia.

We talk about how it came about, why you should travel, our travel plan, and the key factors to consider when taking off - time, savings, and work considerations (remote work, and fun conversations to have with current bosses - like how to tell your boss you're quitting to travel).

Happy Sunday team! One of my major goals this year was to work on my happiness. This snippet is from an episode earlier this year with Jess Woodnorth on Well That Was Podcast.

We were discussing 3 words that could encapsulate my drive for this year and 'happiness' was one. I think happiness is different for everyone but this is just my take on it - I hope it helps you or resonates with ya in some way!

Sid Chand is an up and coming opera singer in NZ and it was a privilege to sit down and learn about his journey to getting paid, studying a masters in classical music, being inspired by the greats, and navigating bumps in the road to reconnect with his why.

I'm yet to meet someone as passionate about classical music as Sid. I loved the relation between what he does and what I do with touch - we're both immensely passionate about what we do, yet it's not a mainstream thing. Trying to pursue it as a passion isn't easy - and learning how Sid as done well so far was inspiring and fun for me too.

Super funny and chill guy, passionate and a great listen/chat to be apart of.

You'd hate to play ball against this guy.

Joshua Leger (@joshualeger) is currently signed with NZNBL Bull's Basketball Team in Franklin/Counties Manukau, NZ. Coming back home from Nelson (previously signed with the Giants) he's a 21 years young baller from MAGS/Sacred Heart and has dreams of playing in the ANBL - and eventually wearing the black jersey for the Tall Blacks. I grew up alongside him (although a lot shorter) and it's been a privilege to see his work ethic as a person on and off the court start to pay off and give him some amazing opportunities. 

We sat down in the tool shed at home to discuss his journey through basketball, goals, work ethic and managed to catch most of the good bits on the mic - listen now and enjoy

Having your own brand isn't easy. Jackson Whale is Gold Coast based and behind the brand 42 Media - a pretty cool brand doing podcasts, vlogs/vid content, and working with other brands to help them level up their social media game. 

Jackson and I chew the fat on starting 42 Media, pivoting and evolving the brand to match what he wanted to do, and ultimately monetising the brand. We talk about building a community and little tricks he does to reward his loyal listeners, the idea of getting engagement over saturating people's feeds, and using paid ads as a tool to promote what he's doing.

In NZ, we tend to have a big drinking culture as young males. Declan, like many other young Kiwi's, started a cycle of drinking and smoking at a young age and got to a point where he realised he couldn't "just have a couple of drinks".
