What is the greatest tragedy in life?

It is not losing wealth, health, success, or earthly comfort. The greatest tragedy is turning away from the God who alone gives life.

In today’s devotional, we reflect on Deuteronomy 28:15–68, one of the most serious and sobering passages in Scripture. These verses reveal the consequences of disobedience, but they also show us the loving heart of God. His warnings are not given to destroy us, but to call us back before our hearts become hardened.

This devotional reminds us that spiritual decline often begins slowly. Prayer becomes less frequent. God’s Word becomes neglected. Worship becomes routine. The heart grows cold little by little. But even when we drift, the Father’s invitation remains: “Return to Me.”

What if God’s presence is the blessing you’re missing?

Today’s devotion from Deuteronomy 28:1–14 reminds us that the greatest blessing is not prosperity, success, provision, protection, or victory — the greatest blessing is God Himself.

As Moses spoke to Israel about the blessings of obedience, he repeatedly pointed them back to the Lord. The Lord would bless them, establish them, protect them, provide for them, and open His good treasure over them. Yet the greatest privilege was not simply what God would give them, but that they were called by His Name and belonged to Him.

This message reminds us that blessings are never greater than the Blesser. Like Moses, we must learn to desire God’s presence above every earthly gift. A land flowing with milk and honey would mean nothing without the Lord walking with His people.

Through Jesus Christ, we have received the greatest blessing of all: forgiveness, adoption into God’s family, the presence of the Holy Spirit, and eternal life with the Father. If we have Christ, we have the greatest treasure heaven can give.

Why does God warn us before we fall?

Today’s devotion from Deuteronomy 27:1–26 reminds us that God’s warnings are not signs of rejection, but expressions of His holy love. As Israel prepared to enter the Promised Land, God commanded them to write His Law plainly on large stones, build an altar, worship before Him, and hear the solemn warnings spoken across the mountains.

At first, these warnings may seem severe, but behind them is the loving voice of a holy Father. God was warning His people because He knew the hidden sins, secret compromises, injustice, idolatry, and disobedience that could destroy them from within.

This message reminds us that God loves us too much to remain silent when we drift. His correction is not meant to push us away, but to call us back into the safety of His presence.

Deuteronomy 27 also points us to Jesus Christ. The altar on Mount Ebal points forward to Calvary, where Jesus bore the curse our sins deserved so that we could receive forgiveness, righteousness, and life with God.

Have you forgotten how far God has brought you?

Today’s devotion from Deuteronomy 26:1–19 reminds us that worship is restored when grace is remembered. As Israel entered the Promised Land, God commanded them to bring the firstfruits of their harvest and remember their story: they were once afflicted, oppressed, and helpless in Egypt, but the Lord heard their cry, delivered them with a mighty hand, and brought them into a land flowing with milk and honey.

Does God see those everyone else overlooks?

Today’s devotion from Deuteronomy 25:1–19 reveals the compassionate heart of God for the vulnerable, the weary, the mistreated, and those who cannot defend themselves.

At first, this chapter may seem like a collection of unrelated laws about courtrooms, farming, family responsibility, honest business, and remembering Amalek. But beneath every command is one beautiful truth: God cares deeply about justice, dignity, compassion, and righteousness in everyday life.

Deuteronomy 25 reminds us that justice must never become cruelty, faithful labor should not be ignored, widows and families must be cared for, business must be honest, and the weak must never be exploited. Does God hear you when you’re broken?

Today’s devotion from Psalm 102:1–28 is a prayer for the afflicted, the overwhelmed, the weary, and those who feel like they have no strength left. The psalmist pours out his pain before the Lord with honesty, describing loneliness, weakness, sorrow, sleepless nights, and a heart that feels withered like grass.

But in the middle of suffering, the psalm turns toward hope: “But You, O Lord, shall endure forever.” Circumstances change, strength fades, people disappoint, and seasons shift, but God remains the same. His mercy does not expire, His love does not weaken, and His faithfulness never comes to an end.

This message reminds us that God does not despise the prayer of the afflicted. He hears the groaning of the prisoner, sees every tear, and sustains His people through every valley. Psalm 102 ultimately points us to Jesus Christ, the unchanging Savior who entered our suffering, carried our sorrows, died for our sins, and rose again in victory.

Does your kindness show people the heart of God?
