In this episode of the Empowered Women’s Health Podcast, host Erin Bailey sits down with Tara Britton-Perkins to explore her unique and powerful journey into motherhood. From fostering and step-parenting to birthing her two biological children, Tara has experienced many faces of motherhood—and with each, a new layer of identity and transformation. Together, they delve into the concept of matrescence—the emotional and psychological transition a woman undergoes when becoming a mother—and how Tara’s path, while far from linear, holds deep wisdom and resilience. This conversation is a reminder that there’s no one “right” way to become a mother, and every version of the journey is valid, rich, and worth sharing. For those that would like to stay in touch with Tara you can find her on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ask.tara/

Today we are talking about the recent proposal to weigh kids in schools as a way to identify obesity.
You know how much we love it when we are reduced to numbers on the BMI and now that is being applied to children as they grow. It had us asking the question WTF?!
As adults we have lived through years of being labelled and our value determined based on the category which we fall. We don't wish to repeat history to bringing in this measure alone.
And never fear, we have come up with alternative uses for government funding in schools to help with the health of our children - mental and physical health.
Here's the media release that we reference: https://www.acn.edu.au/media-release/every-school-aged-child-should-have-access-to-a-registered-nurse-to-maintain-healthy-weight

What does it really look, feel and sound like to empower the women around us?
In this episode Erin takes the reigns for a solo episode as she reflects on her recent weekend at the Wise Women Gathering. This annual weekend is part conference, part retreat and combines the traditions of herbal medicine, holistic healing, women’s mysteries and community in a unique space for growth and connection.
Listeners will gain a deeper understanding of the tools, resources, and mindset needed to foster genuine empowerment in their own lives and the lives of others. Being able to witness empowerment in action only highlighted the importance of women uplifting and encouraging each other in a patriarchal society and encourages listeners to think about their own supportive spaces and how they can support others.
