Enswell Boxing

Last time we welcomed Dec Spelman to the show he was deep in preparations for the first defence of his English light heavyweight title agaainst an opponent he was facing for the second time and who is now heling him in his preparations for the upcoming Commonwealth title fight - Shakakan Pitters. There's many cliches in this boxing workd but it is safe  to say Dec is a genuine, humble and ordinary fella who is daring to be great and achieving
extraordinary things as he goes. He chats in this episode about his upcoming title fight, on how he managed to stay fit and motivated throughout the lockdown period and on a very unique and special bond he enjoys with his manager, promoter and close pal Carl Greaves.

As we continue to return to some sort of normal post lockdown - Francie Luzoho is back to talk to us about how he managed to keep motivated throughout the period of inactivity. He tells us about his new sponsorship & business deals and the big news - the announcement of his new manager, former European champ, world title contender Ryan Rhodes - who also returns to the podcast to talk about that arrangement with Francie. About the brand new boxing game which will be launched for Christmas & of course we chat about his former mentor, the great Brendan Ingle. And last but not least we have husband and wife, fighter & coach duo Sarah Hagighat-Joo and Stevie Bailey. Sara is a 3 time Canadian senior champion who moved to Ireland last year and won the Irish Elite title at 54kg. They talk to us about the differences in Irish and Canadian boxing and tell us their story.

With approximately 12 seperate cards coming over a hectic 10 week period - 'Fight Size' is a
series of episodes which will be approx  35mins each (fight size) and feature one boxer per episode. Kicking us off with the first is James McGivern - the young  Belfast  boxer who did it all as an amateur and has just turned pro.
He won Irish titles all the way through to Elite Senior titles, Commonwealth medals and Europeantitles. Along that journey life threw up far tougher tests than any opponent could in the ring. In this episode James tells us all about this journey, the highs & lows - life in camp and a coach he refers affectionately to as 'Johnny Bravo' - who goes far and beyond the job description of a coach for his fighters.

The recent boxing headlines have been bloated by the news and details of Jarrell Miller's latest failings. In this episode we look at the information surrounding this and the news around the boxing world.
Last time we wecomed John Joe Nevin on the show he was 3 days out from his WBA International title foght with tough Nicaraguan Freddy Fonsecca. Nevin went on to win that fight and delivered a perfroamnce that most - if not all Irish boxing fans hoped for. Indeed that win announced his arrival at contender level of professional boxing. He's back today to talk about that fight, the performance, his coach Jimmy McDonnell and of course the recent war of words on social media with fellow Irish featherweight Jono Carroll.
Also on this episode is a fella who's become known as one of the most colourful, entertaining and skilled fighters of his generation. He had a title laiden & internationally recognised amateur career. As a professional he has featured in some of the biggest Irish domestic clashes in recent times - Deco Geragthy makes his first appearance with us to talk about all of that and more.

One of the lockdown side-effects is the Irish 'media' taking pot shots at Irish boxers and their sport. The only sport - incase some of them forget - that delivers world class operators, world class atheletes and the only Irish sport that REGULARLY wins international honours in the pro AND amateur codes. Some of their rhetoric maybe justified by events of the past - but should our sport and everybody in it be made to suffer for the actions of  others? We have a little look at all that in this episode.

The boxing that we love today is built on the tradition of that bygone era where the best fought the best. Where champions pitted themselves against any and ALL comers with the endevour of being great. Despite being just 28 Michael Zerafa has been in with Peter Quillin, Kell Brook and Jeff Horne twice. He has shown the skills, talents and marketability to become one of the best of his era. Michael joins the podcast today to talk about growing up in Australia, his short amateur career, those huge fights and we also remember a fallen comrade and the effects it's had on him.

It's great to welcome Bray's European bronze medalist and friend of the show Regan 'The Rocket' Buckley. Since winning the medal in Minsk almost a year ago to the day it has been an eventful 12 months. He chats about the homecoming, the Elite senior championships in November and the events that followed that.
He also has an appeal for listeners to help him and his Dad to find a new premises for their hugely successful club St. Teresa's BC. We're asking that ALL
listeners will click the link attached to this and add your name to the petition. If possible we ask that you would share it and help the guys get some support

Throughout boxing history we have witnessed many successful & special relationships
between a boxer and coach. Cus D'Amato and Mike Tyson, Emanuel Steward and Lennox Lewis, Enzo and Joe Calzaghe Freddie Roach and Manny Pacquiao and many more.
Just recently we heard the news that one of Irish boxing's best known and best loved - Wayne McCullough was to become the new coach of Irish boxing's brightest and best hopes of becoming our next world champion Dennis Hogan.
Very few know the inside story of how this cam about. Very few know the nuts and bolts of this new coming together which has captured the imaginations of Irish boxing fans all over the globe.
Its a privilege and pleasure to be a part of this fascinating story and both Wayne and Dennis
