This week's episode of The Sunday Shakeout features a training tutorial on one of the most important, yet overlooked topics in the running space. As Stephen Scullion, Irish 2:09 marathoner and Olympian talks about, it's about what you do outside of the training that makes you good. I couldn't agree more. In this episode, I take a deep dive into stress and inflammation and how that ties to recovery. Additionally, I go over four things to consider when you want to enhance your recovery: sleep, nutrition, recovery, and stress reduction. It's easier to work hard the one or two hours everyday that you run and not focus on the other twenty-three hours of the day. In order to get to the next level, you must dial in those other twenty-three hours of the day. That's what I'm here to help you do. I hope you enjoy this episode of The Sunday Shakeout.
Summary:
- Running is a stressor and along with inflammation, stress can both help you and hurt you.
- The fitness development of all runners is limited by their capacity to recover between hard workouts. Therefore, if you recover, then your fitness will increase
- You have to know your limits and recovery profile before you can successfully recover
- Nutrition, sleep, and stress management are the cornerstones of proper recovery
- There are many other recovery techniques outside of sleep, nutrition, and stress management that can aid in recovery (myofascial release, blood flow, etc)
Thank you so much to all of my listeners! Without your continued support, I wouldn't be here today making podcasts for you guys!
