Animals--abandoned by private individuals who have fled their invaded country--are on the streets of Ukraine. PETA Germany has gone to the border of Ukraine and Poland to help people and their animals there. Less than a week after the Russian invasion began, more than 800,000 Ukranians have fled the country to seek safety. Some have brought their animals. But many did not.
Now PETA Germany volunteers are going into Ukraine to save as many animals as they can, and bring them to safety.
PETA is also giving out 40,000 pounds of dog food to make sure hungry animals can be fed.
PETA Germany investigator Judith Peine talked with Emil Guillermo about what it's like to be at the western border of Ukraine now.
