It's no small thing to bring together a divided government in Virginia and get them to unanimously pass five new laws to save dogs bred for experimentation. But that's what happened after a PETA undercover investigation exposed cruelty at Envigo in Virginia, a 5,000 dog breeding farm that was more like a prison. PETA documented deplorable conditions at Envigo including finding more than 360 dead dogs on the premises. But when the feds wouldn't take action, PETA went to Virginia's state legislators. Normally gridlocked and divided, the legislature, at PETA's urging, came together to fight animal cruelty. PETA Sr. VP Daphna Nachminovich talks to Emil Guillermo about how the investigation sparked passage of new laws holding Envigo accountable.
