EP 40: Japan GP Race Reflection - RB World Champions, Piastri’s First Podium, Mercedes Team Orders?

Listen Later

Welcome to the latest episode of Track Limits Podcast, where Henny, Feven, and Mikey share their thoughts on the recently concluded Japanese Grand Prix.

Following a disappointing race in Singapore, the Red Bull team was determined to reclaim their status as the dominant force on the grid. Max Verstappen took it upon himself to send a clear message to everyone in the paddock and the spectators that Red Bull should not be underestimated. On the other hand, Checo Perez endured what we believe was one of the worst races in his career, plagued by damage, unnecessary penalties, and rookie overtaking errors.

Nevertheless, Max Verstappen single-handedly propelled Red Bull to the Constructors Championship with his P1 finish and has a chance to secure the Drivers Championship during the upcoming Sprint Race in Qatar. This performance underscores the gap between Max and Checo, raising questions about whether Red Bull will retain this duo in the upcoming season.

Oscar Piastri entered the weekend with a clear goal – to secure a podium finish. With the aid of new upgrades, he qualified in P2 and ultimately finished the race in P3. What initially appeared to be a challenging season for McLaren is evolving into one of the most remarkable improvements on the grid. With several races on the horizon, the McLaren car seems well-suited to narrow the gap to Aston Martin and secure P4 in the Constructors' standings.

Mercedes took center stage with a captivating battle between their drivers, a situation that could have ended disastrously for the team. Meanwhile, Ferrari had a more low-key weekend but managed to achieve a respectable P4 and P6 finish. All eyes are now fixed on the intense rivalry between Mercedes and Ferrari as they vie for the coveted P2 position in the Constructors' standings.

As the Qatar Grand Prix approaches, McLaren aims to maintain their strong performance and secure another podium finish, while Ferrari and Mercedes will be diligently searching for improvements to enhance their performance and compete for that crucial P2 spot.
