Brenden Schaeffer discusses the Cardinals 4-3 win over the Rays on Tuesday night at Busch Stadium.
Sonny Gray started rocky, allowing a 2-run homer in the first inning and needing 30 pitches to escape the opening frame. But he settled in like an ace is supposed to do, securing seven innings with just those initial two runs allowed.
The Cardinal offense still has a ton of work to do to improve with RISP (another rough AB by Arenado in such a scenario tonight) but a two-out rally ignited the scoring as Victor Scott launched his first-ever MLB homer before Tommy Pham added some insurance in a key second inning.
Cards didn't score again, but thanks to quality pitching and a huge play to end the game on a great throw by Masyn Winn, they didn't need to (at least not this time).
