After retiring from a 25-year career as a nuclear/chemical technician at the Savannah River Site, Steve co-founded Palmetto Service Dogs in 2017 alongside his mentor Deen Doughty. Their nonprofit specializes in providing professionally trained Collies to veterans with PTSD and individuals living with Autism, Diabetes, or epilepsy.

Together, Steve and Deen bring over a century of combined experience in genetics, training, and exhibiting Collies — producing dogs capable of high-level service work rooted in breed integrity and purpose.
