PETA has been the leader in advocating the end to the senseless deaths of horses in the horse racing industry. Now, just in time for the Breeders Cup, PETA has announced its 11-point plan to save horses' lives and plans to take it to corporate boardrooms of racetracks across the nation. From West Virginia to Arizona, small tracks often operate under the radar. Shareholder activism has been effectively employed by PETA in the past, for example, to bring the end of animal testing in cosmetics. Kathy Guillermo, PETA Senior VP in charge of the horse racing effort, talks about the specific items in the plan which include banning the whip, use of a pre-race scan, and a ban on medications.
