Ah-ha Moments

• Nurse burnout is a phenomenon, Nurses are leaving the profession within 3 years of graduation
• While it is imperative that Nursing schools uphold standards of care and enforce critical Nursing knowledge, could the rigor, strictness and strong focus on performance and grades be forming the foundation of burnout?
• Could a happy medium between scholarly and practice performance and wellbeing reduce burnout? How could that look in Nursing schools?  How could Nursing professors reshape the present system to incorporate more wellbeing practices into curricula?  Could Nurse Coaching be an answer?
• Nursing schools could focus more on student’s wellness by incorporating more wellbeing practices into curriculum, like journaling, mindfulness and meditation, movement, music, and self-care and other complementary practices
• The use of present research on Nurse Burnout in combination with research supporting complementary modalities can be used to establish credible ways to support Nursing student and Nursing professors’ wellbeing
• A 2021 JAMA of Psychiatry study shows that Female Nurses have double the risk of suicide than women in the general public
• No Nurse can function from an empty cup. Focus on caring for self, and establishing routines of self-care are imperative to prevent burnout, potential risk of suicide and enhance joy, happiness, gratitude, calm, purpose and satisfaction
