He's the author of Gentlemen and Freeholders: Electoral Practices in Colonial Virginia, and one of the four co-authors of Old Dominion, New Commonwealth: A New History of Virginia. There are few better people to talk about Virginia with, or why we should bother to write the history of the individual states of the United States.
