In this episode Miranda speaks with Carlos Barberena, a self-taught Nicaraguan Printmaker now based in Chicago, where he runs Bandolero Press and La Calaca Press. Barberena grew up in the 1970s during a violent and volatile revolution. At a young age he fled over the border to Costa Rica where he and his brothers sought refugee status while they sold their drawings on the thoroughfares. Today he is well-known for his satirical relief prints which interweave the imagery of pop culture with that of political and cultural tragedies.
