On this week’s episode of I’ll Have Another, I’m joined by Olin Hacker! Olin just won the USATF 5K Championships in Indianapolis—such an exciting race to witness, and I was lucky enough to be on the mic announcing it. He’s got an impressive range of PRs: 13:08 in the 5K, 3:36 in the 1500, and a 3:56 mile. He runs professionally for HOKA NAZ Elite out in Flagstaff.
We talk about what that win in Indy meant to him, how he’s navigating his professional career, and what it’s like training with a team like NAZ Elite. Olin also shares stories from his time at Wisconsin, where he followed in the footsteps of his dad—also a national champion. And yes, every sibling in his family ran in college, so we had to talk about that running gene, too.
We get into the mental side of racing, his experience at World Indoors where he finished 5th in the 3K, and what he’s working toward next.
What we talked about:
5:15- Winning his first national title on the roads
10:00- His family’s running legacy
16:00- His decision to join NAZ elite
20:20- How his parents cultivated a success mindset
32:00- Olin’s season so far
36:45- Championship races and strategy
44:20- Being coached by Jack Mullaney
49:00- End of podcast questions
