The perpetrators, Joshua Komisarjevsky and Steven Hayes, met in a halfway house and began plotting home invasions both for personal gain, and for entertainment. On the night of July 23rd, 2007, Komisarjevsky and Hayes entered the home of the Petit Family, looking to score some serious money after scoping out their property. The crime turns even more sour when the two men sexually assault the women, beat up the father, and ultimately burn the entire house down.
