This time creative brain trust director George Miller has buzzy indie darling Anya Taylor-Joy smearing the oil on her face and donning the bionic-motorized arm in place of Charlize Theron while Chris Hemsworth chews scenery as a twisted outback-Cyrano de Bergerac-apocalyptic madman. With nine years between this one and the stunning Mad Max: Fury Road (widely regarded as a “perfect” action film), will audiences take to this messianic origin story that is quite different from any other film in the franchise or leave it, Miller, and those hungering for a direct sequel to Fury Road on the shoulder and looking for a tow? Warning…bad Tina Turner/Auntie Entity impressions ahead.
