A male has been sentenced to life behind bars after being found guilty of the murder of a defenceless 22-month-old boy. 

Jonathan Simpson will spend a minimum of 19 years in prison for the murder of Jacob Marshall in Speke in 2019.

25-year-old Simpson, of no fixed abode, but originally from Winsford in Cheshire, was convicted of murder yesterday (Wednesday 10 March) following a trial at Liverpool Crown Court.

The court heard how the emergency services were called to an address in Belsford Way, Speke on the afternoon of Friday 12 July 2019.

An audacious money launderer who tried to smuggle almost £1.4 million cash out of the UK in his luggage has been jailed for more than two years.

The National Crime Agency (NCA) launched an investigation after Zdenek Kamaryt, 38, originally from Ceske Budejovice in the Czech Republic, was detained at Heathrow Airport on 8 November 2020 as he attempted to board a flight to Dubai.

A woman has been jailed for biting a police officer after trying to give them false details about her identity to avoid being arrested. 

Lisa Harbun became abusive and aggressive towards West Midlands Police officers, who tried to arrest her on suspicion of burglary.

Kent Police officers safely located six stolen dogs that callous thieves had taken from a Staplehurst home within 20 minutes of a report being received. 

At around 8.35 pm on Tuesday, 9 March 2021, Kent Police was informed that a burglary was taking place in the Marden Road area.

A cat that had been stuck 40 feet up a tree for three days was rescued by the RSPCA and fire service and has been reunited with his grateful owner.

The black cat, called 'Salam', had climbed the tree near his home in Rothwell Avenue, in Accrington. 

Despite his owner and neighbours trying to entice him down with food the feline was too frightened to move.

Graham Smith, of Park Street, Luton pleaded guilty to burglary and fraud offences in connection to three break ins following a successful investigation by Bedfordshire Police.

Between 16th and 19th January 2020, Smith, 45, broke into three properties in Surrey Street, Leyhill Drive and Rutland Crescent.

A prolific paedophile has been jailed for 15 years after being convicted of a catalogue of historical child sex offences.

Stephen Carr was found guilty following a trial at Preston Crown Court of 32 offences against four male victims, including rape, indecent assault and gross indecency.

The offences were all committed in the Rossendale area between 1993 and 2005 when the boys were aged between 10-16 years.

An Afghan criminal gang suspected of planning to smuggle migrants to the UK in deadly small boats has been dismantled, following a multi-agency operation involving the National Crime Agency (NCA) and French law enforcement.

Officers from the NCA and French illegal immigration unit OCRIEST, working together as part of the Anglo-French Joint Intelligence Cell (JIC), launched an investigation into the network last November.

This joint investigation led to members of the network being placed under covert surveillance.

Two heartless and callous thieves who carried out a distraction burglary while an elderly woman lay dying upstairs in bed have today been jailed for a combined total of six years and nine months.

At around 3 am on October 16, last year, the victim went into the street to try and get some help for his wife, who was seriously ill in their home in Walter Street, Brierfield.
