Jesus calls his disciples his friends. This sermon explores four ways to love our friends well, ultimately by pointing them to the Christian's greatest friend, Jesus.

The rest of the sermon based on John 15:1-11 gives two more results of abiding in the vine of Jesus Christ. First, those who abide in Jesus will have their desires transformed to align with God's will, meaning their prayers will reflect sanctified desires that advance His mission. Lastly, joy is the ultimate result of this abiding relationship, as Jesus imparts His own joy to believers both now and into eternity.

This sermon only got through the first sermon point: those who abide in Jesus, the true vine, will bear spiritual fruit. This fruit manifests as good works, including repentance, obedience, and a transformed life. The professing Christian that does not bear fruit ought to examine to see if he is truly saved.

Though Jesus will soon ascend to heaven, his work must continue through his disciples and today's Christians as we pray in the name of Jesus, obey his commandments, and rely on the Holy Spirit for guidance and empowerment. Just as a business must carry on after its founder steps away, the ministry of Jesus advances through believers who trust in his promises and labor for his kingdom until his return.

In this sermon, Pastor Matt preaches about how Jesus comforts His troubled disciples by assuring them that He has prepared a place for them in the Father’s house, using the imagery of a bridegroom returning for his bride to emphasize the intimacy and permanence of their communion with God.
