Friends, welcome to another bonus track on Everybody Speaks Music and today we're going to follow up with the concept of performance anxiety and how it impacts our abilities to enjoy these moments where we share our music with others. I really believe that some of the tools and resources you'll hear today will help you not only with your music, but other areas of your life that you find discomfort, but perhaps you wish you did more of. So whether that's going to a concert, going to a new job interview, or playing with a bunch of friends at the park, the whole idea of facing these nerves that are holding us back from doing the things we love is such a universal topic. What you're about to hear are responses from four of the teachers that arise in school and music in various formats. There's a couple of phone recordings, there's a voice memo, and then I'll be reading some words from one of our other teachers. I really want to thank Andrew Balboa, Don Halberg, Jacob gold, and Paul Drummond for submitting these great responses.
Friends, thank you so much for dowloading, streaming, however you got here, we appreciate you! Thank you for listening to the show!
Today we are joined by Olivia Blander, VSO cellist and performance coach. Getting a little nervous before we perform, not only music, but in all aspects of our lives is normal, folks, how you deal with it is what matters!

Face your fears and do it anyway!
Hey, friends welcome to another bonus track episode on Everybody Speaks Music and today's a special one, you're gonna get to hear my recent training session with Ean Kramer. Ean was on our show a few weeks ago and he graciously invited me to come to his dojo and train. Now as awesome as that sounds, it comes with a bunch of anticipation nerves, and I wanted to capture that part of the journey. So as soon as I hopped in the van, I hit record. And it was interesting to just process my thoughts. Normally, I'd be meditating, listening to some calm music, or doing something to take my mind off of it. So recording this episode was great because it leapt deep into my subconscious, all the warts and all the embarrassing moments are there for you to laugh about. And then we recorded the aftermath. What happened after my two hour training session, and I really hope you get a lot of value out of that. Because often I find as a musician, it's best to look outside of my craft to pick up new tips and tricks. So whether that's looking into athletics, or business, or any other domain, I can take those concepts and bring them back into how I approach my practicing, and how I approach my growth as a musician. And Ean does an amazing job of laying out the parallels between martial arts and music. He uses the analogy of the body as being the instrument. And I think you're gonna find a lot of interesting parallels there. And at the very end of the episode, I'm also going to attach a clip of Ean, where he did a follow up from the episode he wanted to dive even deeper into the parallels of music and martial arts. So I hope you enjoyed today's bonus episode. Thanks for listening. And don't forget to go out and and face your fears, do the things that you really want to do, even if they feel uncomfortable. We all feel that natural resistance to doing things that are new, and uncomfortable. But I can tell you from this experience with in how much pain intention of properly guided training session could actually remove from my body. Thanks again.

Friends, welcome to Masterclass Session 1, part 2. Today, we're gonna focus on acoustic guitar practice habits. Now for those of you that missed it, I started this series off with a whole episode on how to approach your electric guitar and how to get the most out of your time by dividing your practicing up into eight different sections. Those sections were warmups, scale routines, new material, setlist, technique, knowledge, ear training, and jamming. Today, starting with physicality, and solutions to pain management, and strength building for acoustic guitar players, let's face it, most of you have picked up an acoustic guitar at one time or another in your life, and it didn't feel very good. Now this can be due to a number of factors.
Today we are joined by Kat Stamnes, who tells us about what it's like preparing for the Music Therapy program, it sounds like a lot of work but it also sounds like Kat is up to the challenge!
Hey friends, welcome to another bonus track on Everybody Speaks Music. And today what you're about to hear is my response to a young gentleman's music that was sent to me, for my opinion for my critique, for my suggestions. To be honest, I'm not sure what Kevin was hoping for when he sent me the music. But I do know that I thoroughly enjoyed it. And you'll hear that in my response to Kevin, I didn't plan on releasing this as a podcast episode. But right after sending it back to Kevin, I thought this is a great opportunity to reveal the behind the scenes of what happens a lot in my life. I've been there, I've been a young musician with new music and had no idea where to send it. And I think so many of you can relate to that whether you're a musician or an artist, perhaps you have a business idea. They just don't know who to start with. Maybe you've explained it, or shared it with someone really close to you. And they just didn't give you the response you were hoping for. So you feel a little winded, maybe you don't think your idea is worth putting out into the world. My thoughts are that you should protect these ideas from those that are closest to you, they might love you, they might support you, and they might want the best for you. But that might not always be reflected in their responses. So listen, how I instruct Kevin, to broadly engage his music out into the world, not to his peers, not to people that might be jaded at hearing that type of music, but to find a creative and unique route forward as an artist who wants their music heard.
Friends welcome to Everybody Speaks Music. Welcome to Season Four, Episode Five. Not only is this a season of health and wellness, this is a season of returning guests. And tonight, we have Tony Duenas back from season one, what a year Tony has had and we can't wait to share what an incredible 12 months it's been for Tony.In so many ways, Tony is responsible for huge parts of the season, because of the impact he's had on my life. And listeners if you haven't heard the episode and you want to hear more about Tony, please go back to season one, episode four. But I will quote an article written by the LA Times Tony's down in LA as you'll hear in today's episode, and this article was printed on January 18 of 2021. And the headline is losing his eyesight unexpectedly triggered a life of fitness marathons and triathlons. I mean, you wouldn't know that just a short time ago. Tony wasn't very fit. He didn't do any of this type of training that he's now competing in Ironman and triathlon events.
Hey, friends, welcome to the Everybody Speaks Music Masterclass! I'll be your host for the first part of this journey, which is a new series, where we'll be interviewing all of the top teachers in our ecosystem, talking about how they approach practice, what are their top takeaways for their students and the people that they've worked with over the years. You know, currently at our school, we have 28 teachers, and we focus on guitar, vocals, piano, drums, bass, violin banjo composition. And those are the main areas I want to focus this part of the show on. Today, we part one of a two part episode on guitar, I'm gonna kick things off by talking about electric guitar, playing with a pick all the types of things we can do as an electric guitar player. And I'm gonna break this episode up into eight different categories. And a way that we can approach our practice. Categories are going to be warmups routines, taking on new material, practicing your set, specialty techniques, knowledge, ear training, and finally, jamming freestyle. So let's jump right in. Everyone listening is at a different stage in their journey. But we all need to warm up. Just like any top athlete, no matter how good you are at the sport you play, you've got to do something to get your body prepared for the high level of activity or Bo to embark on. And this is no different for guitar players.
