Everyone Has a Purpose in This World

Listen Later

Katini Yamaoka, singer, songwriter and founder of Katini Skin— a premium line of face oils derived from native ingredients from Japan, Africa, Australia and beyond— takes us on the journey of her career transition from pop artist to beauty entrepreneur and highlights the bridge that her biracial cultural has infused across her music and her brand. Katini speaks Japanese, French and English and has lived all over the world. She practices daily meditation and maintains a vegetarian lifestyle. Katini shares the importance of quiet time and grounding yourself in order to become your honest and authentic self and to constantly remind yourself what your values are.

Katini grew up learning about the “Power of Natural Flora'' from her mother and grandmother and recalls tumeric masks, the healing nature of raw plants and the “Power in Plants to Sustain.” Katini shares, “sometimes we can’t control the environment where we are in '' and yet we still must be resilient - much like plants in Africa that have to sustain extreme heat and droughts.

Katini—along with her partners at Black Progress Matters—launched Katini Skin to bring these treasured ingredients to everyone. With Saks.com as her first retailer followed by Thirteenlune.com and a physical presence in Bergdorf Goodman, Katini shares plans to expand globally and intentionally to her home countries of Japan, Africa and Australia.

Bio: Having grown up in both Asia and Australia with a Japanese mom and Ghanian dad, Katini Yamaoka embraces her beautifully complex lineage and draws inspiration from her life around the globe. From a young age, Katini adopted wellness practices such as daily meditation and vegetarianism. The talented singer-songwriter and entrepreneur is dedicated to representing these principles, as well as authenticity and empowerment, through her music and platform. Katini combined her lifelong passion for beauty and holistic wellness to create Katini Skin, a premium line of face oils derived from native ingredients from Japan, Africa, Australia, and beyond.
