Welcome to episode 30 of the Everything 9000 Podcast where we discuss relevant hot topics across the news and UK culture.

Amir Khan said the following in a recent interview:

- "they all want to try now";

- "People used to say: ‘We are Muslim, we are Asian, we can’t make it in boxing. We’re not going to be picked.’ It’s an excuse that all Asians use – that we’re never going to be picked.";

- "Look at football, for example. There are no Asian footballers [in Britain] but guess what they all say? ‘We won’t get picked because we’re Asian.’ I think that’s a f***ing load of bulls***, really. It’s a load of b****cks. Asians, when we can’t to a certain extent, give up. We don’t have it in us.";

- "It’s curries. It’s not the right diet to be a champion. If you put us against a lot of English fighters their diet is a lot better. They’re stronger than us."

We discuss whether Asian's are dedicated enough to reach the pinnacle of sport or if we blame factors such as racism too easily.

Welcome to episode 28 of the Everything 9000 Podcast where we discuss relevant hot topics across the news and UK culture.

Scottish GPs sent an open letter via The Times to Caroline Lamb, chief executive of NHS Scotland, asking for meat to be banned from hospital menus in a bid to improve patient health. The letter, signed by four doctors and an NHS consultant, claimed that serving red and processed meat to hospital patients was like “distributing cigarettes in the pulmonary-care unit”. The letter called on NHS Scotland to replace meat, eggs and dairy products in hospitals with “vibrant vegan foods”, to protect the health of Scottish people and the planet.

We take a look at this proposal and discuss the pros and cons nutritionally, economically, environmentally and also morally.

The verdict is in and the jury have sided with Johnny Depp in the widely publicised defamation law suit against ex-wife Amber Heard. Over the past few weeks the trial in the US has been live streamed on youtube and been pretty unavoidable on social media platforms - often at the expense of Amber Heard. We take a look at the background of the trial, a brief look at the previous UK trial, how social media has vilified Amber Heard and whether that has been justified. We discuss why this was a case where people should not take a side given the complexity of domestic abuse.

Last years Oscars ceremony brought its lowest ratings ever, this year's was entertaining for all the wrong reasons. Chris Rock makes a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith which did not sit well with her or husband Will Smith. The latter makes his way to stage, slaps Chris Rock before returning to his seat.

We take a look at the incident itself, who's to blame (if anyone), whether Will's is dealing with mental health, what repurcussions this had on the night and what any further consequences may be.
